Steroids can be extremely helpfull in cancelling out inflamation but losingm weight afterward is a different story. I've been on them for years, STEROIDS make you increadibly hungry hence you put on weight, they also have a tendency to cause fluid retention, another reason for weight gain,

If your mum if feeling better without the steroids a decent diet and some limited exercise will have instant effects.

good luck with her recovery

Unfortunately, weight doesn't just fall off after you stop taking steroids. You still have to work at it just like everyone else. Your mom will have to use the standard low calorie diet and exercise in order to start seeing results. Whenever she begins these, she will start losing weight.

She should start seeing a difference real soon after she stops. I had an episode in 2003 and was in ICU on 180 g of prednizone and i gained 75 lbs that year but it will come off I promise and I know its miserable cause you swell so bad with those drugs. I was told to drink lots lots of water funny but it did help it to come off faster.

It comes off really easily with diet and light exercise. Much easier than ordinary weight gain.
