My dog was fixed on Wednesday, yesterday he started getting diarrhea, today the diarrhea had large amounts of blood in it and a very foul odor. I have never smelled anything so bad, it smells like death. The vet says it could be parasites or parvo, but not due to the surgery. What do you think? He is a four year old healthy Pit Bull.

COCCIDIA!!!!!
The smell is the key to that!!!
Does NOT always show up on a fecal.
Treat w/ALBON from the VET!

Then you better treat w/ PANACUR=from VET TOO!=for GIARDIA,just in case.

***NOT*** related to the castration at ALL! Neutering is NO BIG DEAL! & NO,it did NOT pick up the coccidia at the vet...it's HAD the parasite for weeks.

It sounds a lot like parvo which has a very foul odor. Has he had all his shots?Bloody diarrhea can also be caused by Giardia, Coccidia, worms, among other things. I would also be concerned that maybe the vet cut into part of the intestine during the surgery. That would be a very bad thing. I would take him to another vet. Take him to the emergency vet tonight. Don't wait until tomorrow. Hope he will be okay.

Well the blood could be caused by the diarrhea itself- constant diarrhea will irriate the intestinal lining and cause bleeding. However, large amounts of blood is troubling... personally I think your vet is lying. It sounds like your dog might have an infection from the surgery. I would try to get a stool sample and take him immediately to a different vet and get their opinion. An adult healthy dog has almost no chance on earth of contracting parvo, that's mainly a puppy disease, or a disease found in dogs living in filth. Parasites rarely cause blood. I think he needs to see a NEW vet ASAP.

Was he UTD on his IZ's? Because if he was a dog that age should not be getting parvo. Then again parvo does have a very distinctive disgusting odor; your vet SHOULD be able to recognize it!!!
There are a couple of other things I can think of offhand that would cause bloody stools
1) Giardia (from drinking polluted water):

2) Acute HGE:

Insist that the vet re-check him! He could have even picked up something at their office while in for his surgery.

Pet may have picked up something at the vet office, not impossible. It may also have worms if you haven't wormed it lately. Also if not up to date on all vaccinations (Parvo Vacs espeially) could have contact also from vet office. You should take away all water and give the pet some baby non-flavored pediolyte, also give it about 1/2 cc on a 3 cc syringe some pepto bismol every 4 hrs,try also boiling some chicken, cut into small pieces, put into blender with small amount of water and puree, most pets will eat this when nothing else.If he doesn't improve shortly would suggest seeing another vet.

We avoid the pigs ears as they can be chewed into some brittle pieces. It's a slight possibility. Has she gotten anything else new to eat, scraps, change of food? There are several types of worms that cause bloody stool and are serious. You will not see the worms, microscopic. Unless there is a drastic change in condition, vomiting and worse stool, really bloody and unforgettable smell you can hold till Monday to see the vet/ at least call, appointment. No more treats. Possibly moisten dry food easier to digest and plenty of water. Do not give any people meds of course. If in doubt put in emergency call to vet.

GET YOUR DOG TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY. PARVO IS RAMPANT IN ANY AREA WHERE DOGS GO. IF YOUR DOG WAS NOT VACCINATED 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THE SURGERY HE IS VERY SUSCEPTIBLE TO THIS DISEASE
