Maybe not his best but definitely open for interpretation.
"La ciudad de los cajones" ( the city of the drawers)

"just because I don't know the meaning of my art, does not mean it has no meaning" Salvador Dali.

Try looking at some of his paintings and see what they might mean to you personally. An artist may initially be trying to convey a message thru their art but ultimately it is up to the viewer to interpret their own personal response to the work.

I know that's probably not the answer you're looking for.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I can only really tell you which of Dali's paintings work for me - Dali was an abstract artist, so all of his pictures have an underlying message conveyed through symbols.

Personally, I think Christ of Saint John Of The Cross is simply stunning. The precise meaning is open to question, but for me it displays the hypocrisy of religious iconography - this painting was vilified by the Church at the time as a publicity stunt by the artist (now would he do that?)

The Burning Giraffe 1937. Dalí believed that both The Burning Giraffe and The Invention of Monsters were premonitions of war. Both of these paintings contain the image of a giraffe with its back ablaze, an image which Dalí interpreted as "the masculine cosmic apocalyptic monster".

* the website contains 30 pages of his works, many feature an analysis. Some give really good details on the symbols he used in his paintings and their meaning.
