Cultural.

I am from England and I live and work in the USA and it is rather different here.

I find that most parties do not have beer and that it is terrible to drink around children or heavy machinery....can you believe that!!!

It may not be true that they drink or consume more alcohol than other genetic groups, but it is true that they are more likely to be affected by the alcohol in the blood stream than others.

It has been speculated by many that since the Celts were an isolated group of people and not exposed to furmented liquids until the Romans came with Wine that the genes of the Celts had not evolved to tolerate the alcohol. It is the same for Native Americans.

Hope this answers some part of a very complex question.

I read years ago that there is a genetic trait common in people of Celtic ancestry which causes the body to produce a chemical similar to morphine when alcohol is consumed. This results in a greater likelihood of adiction.

i really do not think that Celtic drink anymore than any other long lived culture. ie Romans, greeks, Egyptians and Orenttilials have shown that drinking in the form of wine and beer has been around from the dawn of histroy. As to why tha Celtic got a bad rap, to my way of thinking it was because they were more open about drinking to much.

I'm half Celtic and half Anglo-Saxon and I don't drink. You figure it out.
My father was 100% Celtic and he didn't drink, either.
