http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ahb_ef4RU03bbSSeTRN9sbPd7BR.?qid=20070608173953AAPVJbQ
I was called a hypocrit for going to church (Even thought its UU and has plently of people who share my pagan faith) and all sorts of wonderful things.
I know its stupid, and maybe I am just senstive today, but how can people say some of these things???

Not everyone offended me. Some of you were really nice about not agreeing with me. I am talking about the hateful ones.

Yes it's rather unfortunate that some of the people who whine about people saying hateful things say things 10 times as bad. I'm sorry that people have given you them nasty comments it's really sad when people think it's their way or no way. It's almost human nature and I have personally experienced what the Christian religion does some churches not all mind you but some teach pretty much intolerance why would a church teach such things I don't know but some teach you if someone doesn't agree 100% with your religion they aren't worth anything I've gone to these type of churches part of the reason I gave up on religion. Don't let it get to you! You are who you are and your a good person! You know you are don't worry about how others see you.

One of the things I've learned is that we need others to believe what we believe, because we’re afraid to stand alone with our beliefs. Thing is, when you're secure in your faith, whatever that faith may be, you realize that you're never really standing alone. Don't let anyone else's lack of faith get you down, dear. Live a good life and, if they question that, just very politely point out that you're living closer to Christian ideals than most of them.

I read your question and not what others had said. There are many people that hit with condemning tones and not reaching out in Love.
It is deep in our religion that there is only one God and all other paths are the say of Satan. This makes all others false and not a pathway to heaven. So many people of faith shout with a stick and not just explain what God's position is. Many other religions have a great platform on social issues and do great things for communities and needy. I am glad you are helping out when you can. Do not take a few pulpit wannabes to say that all Christians are this way.
I serve what is good and I have found the Lord Jesus Christ. He has touched my life and heard His voice. I know God is real and Maybe someday you will too.

Well, if you had specified it was a UU Church, my thinking would be different. (hands you a cig and a cup of tea)
No need to get upset over ppl's thoughts on Y!. Been there, grew up.
Now try to quit smoking as it's bad for you and if you want to cheer up just lurk for a while and see what kind of nonsense gets posted here for an hour or 2.
(((hugs)))

I will never ever join a faith or church that teaches anyone who does not believe in what they believe is going to Hell or whatever horrible place. Even Mormons don't teach that, I guess that is why Christians hate Mormons so much, they are much nicer!

... you know reading answers to questions like that makes me lose a bit of faith in mankind. It's so horrible that people believe your religion defines whether or not you are a good person.
It is our choices and actions that show us who we really are. Not our religious beliefs. If I were to hate everyone who didn't believe the exact same thing as me, I would hate everyone. Is that what we are going to be reduced to?
I think you are a very good person and an incredibly excellent human being.

Some people are just trolling the boards, trying to get a rise out of you. Others are answering the question, which may not be what you want to hear.
You may not have liked the answers coming from Christians, but I know that, while perhaps unpleasant, my answer was spoken in honesty and truth.

You know it's not worth the energy you wasted on being bothered. I do understand why it bothered you but you knew that those that posted negatively would.
Don't worry you sound like a good person to me.

Jill you know who you are...you have nothing to prove to anyone. so let them think as they wish of you. one week from now they will forget they even answered your Q and forget your name. they say these things to you because they have a closed mind and heart. they will not change if they remain this way. if you wish to go to church sister this is your choice. don't let them make you feel bad for being who you want to be. they don't know you, but you know you and you know what is in your heart.

People say alot of things because they can. They are on a high horse and look down on others because it's makes THEM feel better about themselves.
Don't ever be afraid of anyone.Always be true to yourself. That's the one thing I've learned in my last 42 years.
