I have smoked since 1999. The last couple of days I have noticed that I have to take really a really deep breath to catch my breath. I know smoking causes cancer but I dont believe I have smoked for enough years to get it yet.

It could be any number of things. It could be emphezyma, bronchitis, asthma or the Big C. Smoking also causes your lungs to not work as well as they should.

My father is 81 years of age. He has emphezyma and had half a lung taken out because of lung cancer. He smoked since he was 19 years of age and quit when he was in his early 60's. If the weather gets very humid, he has a problem breathing and can't catch his breath. If its really cold outside, he has a problem breathing and can't catch his breath. If he walks too much, he has a problem breathing and can't catch his breath. Are you sensing a pattern here? Stop smoking and go see a pulmonary specialist about your shortness of breath. You don't want to be gasping for air when you are older.

I am not going to give you a lecture on what smoking does to you, but I will tell you something I saw on TV from a smoker. There is this person who had to take a really deep breath a then let it ALL out as fast as she could. It took her about fifteen minutes to let all the air out of her because her lungs were in such bad shape. What you need to do is:
-Quit smoking.
-Excersize to make your lungs healthier. (Swimming is good)
-Never go back to smoking again!

quit smoking
you can get emphysema which is in other words basically spilling tar and all that other shite on your lungs and turning them black. you can get throat, chest and brain cancer from smoking. do yourself a favor and just quit as soon as possible.and theres no such thing as i dont belive that i have smoked enough to get it. it'll get you no matter what.
quit.

emphysema is much more likely........in fact there are very few who smoke for a long period that don't develop this potentially deadly disease........My Mother died from it in 2000..........imagine you draw in a big old breath but your lungs cannot take enough oxygen out of it to sustain your body.......it is like a slow version of being suffocated.........your brain gets goofy from lack of oxygen...it is a terrible and painful way to go.....Sad really.when you could have done something to prevent it.........

It layers your lungs inside with tar which causes the oxygen more trouble to process into your body.

Don't be so sure. You're killing yourself. Are you suicidal? If not, give it up. There are groups all over the place to help you quit smoking.
