No that's not it. "Dam it" would translate correctly as "maldición" or "maldita sea" depending on the country. That's because "dammed" is basically a curse, originally with a religious meaning, not simply a bad word.

Without a doubt, "Maldita Sea" is the literal translation, and it is definitely used in Spanish-speaking countries including Mexico. Though not very common, it is in use and certainly more so among cranky old ladies. Maldicion is also correct, if somewhat less common.
Pinche mierda and a dozen other curses might be more familiar to younger people. They are slangier and used in everyday speech. It also depends what country you're dealing with. Joder, coño, chingada madre, etc.
