I'm agnostic, but the actual question applies to me, too. I don't accept or reject God because there's no evidence for either side. That's the nature of "God" - outside our perceptions.

To the person who said:
They dont want to believe in God because if they did that means they would have to answer to someone and they couldnt do whatever they want anymore

I AM SO TIRED OF HEARING THIS NONSENSE. WE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR OUR ACTIONS. YOU do not get to decide how WE think and feel! Get OVER yourself.

There's no sign of one. There have been so many religions, they come and go, nobody believes in the Greek gods anymore either, so when you look at the big picture it's hard to take any religion seriously...

Frankly I don't see why it's so easy TO believe in God. The requirement of it is such blind faith and it actually seems to be the POINT that there's no visible sign of that divinity in the world. No matter what happens, it must be God's will (if he answers your prayer or doesn't, he did the right thing?).

Hedonism is not a reason why people become atheists. You don't decide not to believe. And it would be sooooo convenient for religous people if all secularists were evil, selfish people...but they just aren't. I am moral because I choose to be and because I know it's the right thing to do, without expectation of reward after death.

You know, usually I say what every Atheist says... there's no evidence, etc etc, but as long as you're genuinely interested and not being a douchbag, I'm not going to tell you that's why it's so difficult for me, because all that just reinforces it.

It's a feeling. Even if I had never read Dawkins, Epicurus, etc, I would still be atheist because as I sit here or go to sleep at night I don't and never have had the feeling that we are not alone.

Trying to believe in God, any god, is like trying to levitate for me. I just can't... I'd be telling myself a lie and that is exactly what it would feel like. You can lie to other people, but you can't lie to yourself.

I believe we were an accident, and human beings, just another species trying to survive. Everything that happens (or doesn't happen) in this world describes this idea perfectly.

There is no purpose. If you want purpose, you're going to have to make it yourself. We have ONE life on this planet, and most people do not really live at all. Because of this fact, god is a cancer, a poison in the hearts of the people that tear others apart for this delusional afterlife that doesn't exist.

Why do you assume it is difficult? Do you think that for some reason if it was easy then we would automatically do it? Why? Is believing in God some kind of default that atheists must deviate from? If so, are babies born religious? If not, then why are you assuming that believing in God is difficult?

That said, I do in fact find it difficult to believe in God. Why? Evidence, my friend, evidence. The knowledge that I am aware of simply does not add up to God probably existing, so I believe that God probably does not exist. I believe that knowing the truth is more important and overall more beneficial than trying to get a little short-term satisfaction by believing things that the evidence doesn't add up for. As a rational being, it is difficult- close to impossible- for me to suddenly believe in God, just like that. It just plain goes against the way in which my mind works, which is to evaluate statements based on the things I can actually find out rather than things that require faith (i.e., bias). To use an excellent analogy, for me to believe in God is just as hard as for you to believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Get what I mean?

If that doesn't answer your question...well, you can ask more questions on the subject, or if you want my reasons in particular you can even contact me and ask me directly. I've got this pretty well worked out by now. :)

First off, anyone who says they are SURE about anything just looks more the fool when they are wrong.
With that out of the way,. I BELIEVE there is no God because of so many reasons it's hard to just point out one. There's so many LESS reasons for believing and they are all no-answers. Like: The "book" or because my parents told me so, or because I have faith.
It's actually easier to believe in God than to disbelieve. How many years did you know that Santa wasn't real but didn't want to admit it? It's fun thinking that someone is out there watching you and loving you and will someday give you a reward.
Just not realistic.

All non-believers are not atheist.
Some people may have their own concrete reason to negate the existence of God. But they are harmless. They don`t find any logic to prove ar disapprove. Simply because of their own individual reasons the hate the belief of God.

All believers are not real devotees:
Even though they used to quote difficult verses from Holy Books and act like very big religious leaders, they may engage in sinful activities.

Among these two category; I love and believe the first one

The general public has been lied to by the powers-that-be for millenia...I will NOT take the word of any man on such an all-encompassing philosophy...all"proof"of god is written by men, excepting the 10 commandments, conveniently missing...I choose my own path...

Which god do you mean? If you mean Jehovah as described in the Old Testament, have you really read the descriptions of him? They're unbelievable, and thankfully so, because he was an immoral and cruel being.

The Bible only makes sense when you see that it is just myth. Any wisdom it has is accidental.

It isn't difficult. I was a christian for longer than I have been an atheist.

I understand in fact how EASY it is to believe.

I do not KNOW there is no god. I simply observe that there is no evidence for god, and therefore it is FAR MORE LIKELY that god does not exist.

Because of the fact that there is no evidence in support in any God. The support that most people bring out, their holy text, is usually ripe with contradictions and absurditites.
