it was a 2 door coupe with a dual distributor 4 cylinder engine. i am pretty sure it was rear wheel drive and it was a 4 speed. the title and registration didn't say what it was, or if it did i don't remember seeing it. anyway i have never seen another one like it anywhere. the rear quarter panel had louvers on it in which the drivers side covered the gas cap. i want to stress that it was NOT a hatchback. i have searched everything i could find on Datsun history and have not been able to find this car, it is as if it doesn't exist. anyone with any kind of knowledge here would be greatly appreciated! thank you for you time.

You either had a B310 (a.k.a. Nissan Sunny) or a B210

1978-1982 B310 - Motor A12A (1237CC) - North America Only

1979 B210 - A12A/A14 Motor
1980-1982 B210 - A12A/A14/A15 Motor

From your query, these cars were the last RWD cars prior to the introduction of the first Sentra FWD (B11 1982+).

Hope this helps.

Almost sounds like an RX 2 Mazda or maybe a Datsun 1200. I had a RX 2 in 74 but I don't remember where the gas cap was. 2 door 1200 looked similar.

Well, the dual distributors have me curious. Datsun, or Nissan did build what was called 200SX that had that set up. Google it, and see if that's the one. I'm thinking it was the 2nd generation out around 1981, 1982 and offered in hatch form, and also coupe. They were very popular and Datsun sold an *** load of them. I checked google and I think this is the one your asking about. They were cool cars, but the distributor set up can be temper-mental.

Are you sure it was not a Mazda? The dual distributor was used on 12a rotary engines. Most early 1,200cc Datsun sedans were super simple. Then came the number series like 510, 210, 610, two and four door coupe and sedans hatch backs. and small wagons.
