NO!!! take it to a vet since it most likely has mites that need to be treated and it has now scratched itself so much it now has a sore which can get infected very easily if it is not already, you can use Neosporin but that will only take care of the sore which will come back again anyway because of the itching which is most likely mites. Having a pet requires that you spend money on vet care so take it to the vet and get those mites taken care of and the sore treated properly.

NEVER give your pet meds that are meant for people. True story coming up. A friend of mine had a dog that she said was not feeling well and because his nose was dry, she assumed he had a fever and she gave him Tylenol. Guess what, the dog died because Tyleno is poison to a dog. That's what the vet told her. I give Benadryl to may patients and it makes them fall asleep. Now if it does that to a full grown human, think about what it will do to a cat. Just call the vet. My cat did the same thing and it was ear mites. The vet gave me drops to put in the cat's ear and it worked.

Though you can give him benadryl it is not necessarily ideal for wound treatment. Every animal is different and when there is a wound involved it is best to just go to the vet. I know money can be a problematic factor but ask your clinic if they do some form of payent plan. I used to work at an animal clinic and saw how ugly little wounds could get. You end up spending more money if you wait until the wound gets seriously infected so I would just spend the money now and get it taken care of. I wish you the best of luck.

I think that there are a number of things that could be wrong with your cat. You should probably take it to the vet before administoring your own remedy. Also visit www.CatChannel.com they have an article that discusses all of the causes of itching and scratching.

I agree with others, PLEASE do not give your cat any medications that are meant for humans. We very well wouldn't take medicine prescribed for an animal, so why would meds for people be any good for them? They aren't and are often times lethal. Do the right thing, and take your cat to the vet so he can be treated properly. He most likely has ear mites, and it is a simple fix. Please take your cat to the vet!

She may have an ear infection that caused her to scratch her ear until there was a sore. You need to address what's causing her to scratch first by taking her to the vet. Then you can put some diluted hydrogen peroxide on the sore to clean it up. I wouldn't use Benadryl - see a vet!

If it's near his ear it's best to use a cone. It goes round their neck until the wound has healed. It's there to stop your cat from scratching. If you take it to the vet they could tell you what it is and give you a cone.

I would not administer ANY type of human made medication to your pet without speaking to your vet first. Even tylenol can kill a pet, harmless as tho it may seem.
