I have been running Win2K on a machine that has no internet connectivity (it's a business machine and I want no virus / spyware liability hooking it up to the net). I just found out that a necessary software upgrade requires me to upgrade to XP. So it's a simple enough question: can you install Windows XP onto a PC that is NOT connected to the internet or do you need the net to complete any part of the install? Win2K did not require it, but I am not sure about XP.

Thanks very much in advance!

Yes, but you need to activate it using a telephone call instead of the internet. The option is listed on the activation page.

Yes, you can install windows XP even if you don't have an internet connection, but you need the windows XP installation CD. The only disadvantage is that you will not be able to run update of windows XP. Like your CD may have Windows Media Player version number 9, while updating you may have the versions 10 or 11.

Sure you can. But. Check the install disk of your XP version to be sure that it contains SP 2. If not, try to get the SP 2 disk from Microsoft [I had them mail me one, even though I downloaded it off the net]. If you can't find the SP 2 "mail me a CD" link, then it should not be a problem hooking the computer up to the net for the single one time purpose of downloading SP 2, and other updates to SP that you may want.

You can but you can't get any updates without some sort of connection to the internet unless you go through another computer. I would recommend hooking it up to the 'net as soon as possible.
