I am not really sure what it is and it takes a alot of room up on my computer. DO I need it for anything.

It is a free open source version of Microsoft Office. If you have a copy of MS Office then you can delete Open Office from control panel then add/remove programs. Find Open Office and click uninstall. If you dont have Microsoft Office, then you may want to keep Open Office to read and write documents. Check out http://www.OpenOffice.org for more info.

Open office, is just like microsoft office, i know!! and yes it does take up a bit of room, i had office xp pro, and it took a lot of space, and i dont even use, so i deleted it

The 100MB Open Office is very easy to install Un-install. It replaces the 400MB (and $) M$-Office. You "would need it for anything" that you would use M$-Office for. It's free and M$-Office compatible.

If you own, as in paid for, M$-Office, then you don't need OOo.

If you do not have Microsoft Office you should keep it, it is the only certain way to read any MSO created files.
