My dog, Gizmo, is a 6 year old Pekingese and he won't stop marking his territory! I thought I stopped the problem but I found some pee stains behind my mothers bed when I was re-painting her room for her birthday and I KNOW they werent there before. I'm getting so frustrated! I took him to the vet for a full blown checkup and hes fine, so its not a UTI. I know not to use anything with Ammonia (hes used to the ammonia anyway, so it doesnt help). He was neutered at 6 months, so I have no idea WHY he keeps doing this!

I'm usually good with solving these types of problems, but this one stumps me. I have a new puppy (female) who is almost 7 months old and I dont want her to learn that its okay to pee inside the house -- and for Gizmo to throw off her training because she is doing SO well.

If anyone has any websites or ANY advice, please share. I'm at my witz end!
If you need to know any additional info, just tell me and I'll Add Details for you.

Thanks so much.

I've had the new pup for FOUR months though! He didnt mark his territory when I got my new puppy. He was fine until I found the stain which looked a couple days old.

I'm skeptical that its about the new puppy. I've also babysat LOADS of puppies for friends/neighbors for 2 weeks (tops) and he has always been fine and no marking.

To Charizard: I have NEVER and will NEVER beat my dog! Thats just a little ridiculous.

Anytime he does something I dont want him to do I say "NO" in a very firm voice.
Depending on what he does thats bad I might ignore him for 5-10 mins. tops.

Thats ALL I do when punishing any animal.

I hope you don't hit your dogs.

GoldenGal: I don't think it was an accident. I admit I have been a bit busy w/ classes and the new pup, but I always wind up taking him out when he needs to go (he barks at you when he has to go outside).

He is never left alone for more than 8 hours at a time and he is baby gated in the kitchen which is tiled.

We have had some thunderstorms lately (I think last week we had some bad ones) but he always just hides behind the couch the whole night.

During the night he is gated so he can only go in my mothers room and the kitchen, no where else. He has ALWAYS slept in her room since he was about 1 year old on her bed.

Yes, he's marked his territory before and I had the rugs proffesionally cleaned to get the smell out. I watched him like a hawk and after a few months he did not do this anymore.

Now hes starting again! :[
I have no clue how to stop him from being good for months and then messing up. I guess re-training is in order.

Thanks for all the answers so far too!

If you are not cleaning these areas with a special pet cleaner, he will still smell his previous visit and will keep visiting them frequently. Start going back to basics, start putting him in a doggy crate and let him out to pee in the yard in the same spot. Walk him out so you control the area he goes. Then bring him inside to play. BUT make sure he they do have a accident clean it properly. Look at your local pet stores for the good stuff, they will direct you....

Part of it is that Gizmo is a little jealous of the new puppy. It sounds like hes really wants her to know that the house and everything in it(including YOU) are his property.Since there's nothing medically wrong with him,it sounds like hes' being a jealous big brother.Try spraying "Bitter Apple" on the areas he likes to mark.Try not to show any kind of favoritism. And really watch them together, especially when he doesn't think you can see them. You can try this trick that works on cats...put a mouse trap under a sheet of newspaper, the sound will frighten him if he walks on it,but he won't get snapped by the trap.Good luck...

Hi Honey.
Was this the only time he has done this??? Could it possibly have been a accident? Not marking his territory at all? I would hate to have you worry so if this is a one time thing and he just had to go really bad and maybe no one was home to let him out or possibly he was frightened and just had a accident. Have you had any thunderstorms around your area lately. I'm just thinking here that maybe something you have forgotten about. Don't want you to freak out if it could have been a accident.

Pekes are dominant dogs. The whole breed. I have had a lot of them and never seen a submissive, fearful peke. They are BOSS and they know it. They go looking for a fight with other animals and strangers. And they are difficult to impossible to housebreak. That is just the breed-- highly confident. Keep him where he can't do much damage. Use those male diaper things. And just know that the breed acts this way.

I too have a Male dog that marks his territory in the house and have solved the problem. My male dog wears a "Belly Band". It's basically a piece of fabric that wraps around his waist covering is penis. Whenever he mark's his territory he urinates in the Belly band rather than on your furniture. You can also put a sanitary napkin in there so his pee will get absorbed into it rather than getting all over him.

Even though your dog is not a Golden Doodle, a great site to go to is the Doodle Discussion forum. It is at goldendoodles.com and has great discussions from many people about their dogs' problems! You can post a question or concern, and many will write back with replies or similar scenarios. It is great!

Neuter him. If he's already neutered, I don't know what to suggest...only belly bands and diapers.

Or you could try reverting back to pottytraining methods. Keeping an eye on him 24/7 unless he is contained.

The only thing I can think is that he's marking his territory due to the new pup/
Very hard to break an instinct like this
good Luck.

First of all:do you beat your dog like smack him?,
do you put him outside to go?
do you punish him?one way to stop that is whenever you see him dooing it spray him with water, like a sprayer for plant indoors. I did that for my dog and it made it stop marking its territory. and it mite also be the puppy, if they are around each other the dog mite be jealous. thats all i know
