Do you pay sales tax on 99 cents or less. I've heard that you don't.

You've heard wrong. Unless sales tax is less than 1/2%, and I think it's higher than that everywhere that has a sales tax, there would be some tax due.

Yes, and you pay the same amount you would on a dollar. That's why so many big businesses sell things for "99cents", it's not that they think they are fooling anyone, it's that they collect an extra penny tax on every sale that they do not have to pass along to the Gubmint...

Yes you would. The sales tax applies to any amount. Some items are not subject to sales tax however, such as food and certain other items.

The only thing that I know of that does not have sales tax attached, is food. Even food is not exempt anymore. Our cities and states have gotten more greedy over time and are taxing food as well.

yes you do. say you have a 6 percent sales tax . pretty much every 17 cents you will owe a penny

depends where you live, usually yes, and it's a percentage of the total cost, I have never known there to be exemptions due to being 99cents or less, otherwise i would pay for all my items separately at the register...
