I work in NC and the answear is no, they only cover new cars and even then they are very hard to prove. But they do have to disclose any major damage to you. If thats your problem, otherwise I would just say sell the car to someone else.

All you can do ask for the individual to give you the money for the car returned in the same condition it was purchased. Only if there was gross lies about the condition and whitnesses to testify do you stand a chance of law suit. Lemon's are in your garage. My rule never buy any car until mechanical check over. Buy the very best example of the used car you want and afford. Lemon laws apply to NEW cars that cannot be repaired or, out of service for over 30 days the manufacture has to make 3 attempts to get the car fixed. Then the car gets repurchased the new car owner gets another car... Used Cars =No Such Luck

Lemon law only covers new cars. So NO
Ok, It only covers in the first 12 months depending on In Service Date. It only can be covered if a dealer has tried to fix it 3 times or more and still can not be fixed.

I have never heard a lemon law in any state that covers buying form an individual. Buyer Beware. The assumption is that a dealer has to be more responsible and therefore potentially liable.

The law covering lemon law in NC is here, in full: http://tridod.org/legal/lemon.htm
But here is the only part that will interest you: This Article shall provide State and private remedies against motor vehicle manufacturers for persons injured by new motor vehicles failing to conform to express warranties.
sec. 20-351 Purpose.
NEW, not used. Same thing in most if not all states. Only covers new, and only under limited situations.

Lemon laws were never designed to cover stuff from a junk yard. Anyone who would buy a salvage vehicle should be aware that "salvage" is just a nice way to say "junk". It's sort of like calling a garbage collector a "sanitation engineer". Sounds fancy but doesn't change the facts.
