I am filling out a job application and want to fill it out honestly and correctly. I was laid off from a job five years ago and would like to know if this is considered discharge as I was not actually fired.

A discharge is not the same as a layoff. Layoff means that they were downsizing and you were let go as a result. Discharged means that you were fired for cause.

Don't ever leave anything out on an application. Employers love future employees that tell the truth and are open about their past employment whether you quit, laid off or was fired. Honesty is the best policy.

i would pick someone intellectual...maybe Dr. Manhattan or Professor X. Or even Beast...he was smart. Professor X from X-men is telepathic so he would be useful. but i think the question is really to see how you think so maybe you should put something like "depending on what type of teamwork is needed, i would choose the superhero that would best help the group. For problem solving i would choose ______. For a rescue mission i would choose _______." you get the picture.

Discharge is more than likely if you have been fired, or layed off indefinetly,

It does count as a discharge but not one that will be detrimental on your CV as it was not your fault.

i wouldn't think it would. and yes i agree, being honest will get you hired. if they say you may get the job, but has to interview others. and you really want the job, call them at least 2 times aweek. that way they know you want to work. i worked for me 3 times in my life.

does it asked for an explanation? if so, i would still mark yes and then "laid off" as the explanation.
