-- that Native Americans originally came from the Middle East via boat and some magic compass (despite a total lack of evidential support), and that some guy translated golden plates with the aid of a magic rock.

For those who object to a Mormon candidate, exactly how does this make him any weirder than the rest of the Republican candidates?

Hi Maryanne! Thanks for the giggle! Hey, do all of the candidates wear magical underwear? =)

You: Okay, so Mitt Romney believes that the Garden of Eden was in Missouri and -- ?
Me: Missouri is where they went after being cast out of the Garden of Eden (was not called Missouri then)

You: ... that Native Americans originally came from the Middle East
Me: the B.O.M. covers some of the ancient Americans BUT does NOT claim that is where ALL of their ancestors came from.

You: ...via boat
Me: beats swimming

You: ...and some magic compass
Me: Some prefer a column of smoke and a pillar of fire, but they were trying to avoid being found so the Liahona (compass) was more discrete.

You: ...(despite a total lack of evidential support)
Me: Says you! (actually there is a lot of proofs of the B.O.M. -- for instance -- the B.O.M. describes wheeled tools; for many years it was believed that Native Americans did not have the wheel -- but in the last 10-15 years chariots -- with wheels -- were discovered in Central America)

You: ...and that some guy translated golden plates with the aid of a magic rock.
Me: exodus 28 -- rooted in the Bible

there you go

Rudy's Campaign Sorta Sorry About That Mormon Horseman Thing
The Giuliani campaign wants you to know it wasn’t really appropriate to e-mail everybody a copy of that weird Salt Lake Tribune story about the Ancient Mystical Prophecy regarding the Mormon on a (metaphorical) White Horse who would, in the End Times when the Constitution was hanging by a (literal) thread, become president and save the USA. The end.

Well, based on Mormon history, I'd trust him more to lead the country than to lead the CLDS.

I mean, Brigham Young just up and abandoned a policy that hundreds had died for because he wanted more political power...

I don't think Romney would abandon political power to get more church power, so I think as long as no politician is in charge of the CLDS they are safe.....

(Who knows, maybe the next thing that Mormons find limits their political power is not drinking and then THAT won't be church policy anymore....)

Not that it matters, I could not be paid to vote republican. I've already paid enough from OTHERS doing it.

Everyone has their own essential weirdness. I'm sure you and I believe some very different things about life, and how we should live it. Everyone has their own value and belief system.
I think Mitt has shown himself to be a great leader, businessman, father, husband...what more could you want? His religion can be mocked and distorted by those who don't understand, but can't all religions?

I doubt that's why people object to a Mormon candidate. Having been Mormon, I object to a mormon candidate because I know that part of their "mission" is to convert as many people as possible, and I know that Mitt Romney (if he becomes president), although he could be a great president, that would only further the cause of the LDS/Mormon church for converts, and I would hate to think of another reason for them to sucker people in.

LOL

He's no different from the rest. He will say whatever he thinks people want to hear. How do you think he got elected in as liberal as they come Massachusetts? He lied a lot.
