How do they go about treating mental problems so that they can come back into society healed. Is anyone really healed? Will anyone tell the truth about what goes on in those places? Does anyone KNOW?

From talking to people and reading all the reasonable answers I've come to the conclusion it is like a cult brainwashing people (Like Jim Jones, etc.) AND the money! The legal court system really has NO WAY to "heal" people that they send into rehab. Its all a farce.

i know what goes on in those places because i worked in one in canada. most offenders usually go first to a maximum security hospital , and then to a medium security hospital for treatment. treatment options usually are medications, group therapy, diagnosis by a psychiatrist, and a psychologist. sometimes when a person is on a ward, then there may a form of community therapy, and the person is expected to participate, and be a good member of the ward "community". sometimes adversion therapy is used for sexual crimes. in order to gain acess back into the community, or a medium security unit, the person has to be deemed not a danger to society, and has to appear, once a year to a review board. the person has a right to have his or her own lawyer present. the treatment options are very similar to a psychiatric hospital except the hospital or state has more controll over the person than a regular psychiatric hospital. it can be a long process to get back into the community and some of the people that were locked up told me they would rather have gone to prison, because at least they would know when they would get out. most of the people in these type of hospital were psychopathic, rapist, women who kill their children, and a few schizophrenics. for these illnissess, there is no cure, so as fas as the question is anyone really healed, i would say no, but most who do go back into society, have been conditioned, and usually do not reoffend, but there have been cases were they do. i hope this helps your question.

I know what what goes on in a private psychiatric hospital but not a state psychiatric ward. I would assume that they would do the same in a state facility as in a private facility. I don't exactly believe in the insanity defense anyway. If you killed a person, then you should pay for what you did.

They have facilities for "the criminally insane". I would guess it would be a cross between a prison and a mental hospital. Who knows what the "recovery" rate is at these places.
