Ok if the US is suppose to be the most succesful country blah blah, and most people here consider themselves educated blah blah, why are so many of you hatefull towards immigrants? Unless you are Native American, your family/ancestors came here as IMMIGRANTS, luckily they became legal and years passed, you were born here and NOW YOU HATE THE HISPANICS & OTHER RACES for coming in here trying to feed their family, Now, I don't agree with the ones that come here to commit crimes in a country that isnt theirs, that I DO not agree with, but the ones that do things right why do you bash them?? where is your education...most of your ancestors came here on a boat just like they are doing now...EDUCATE YOURSELF people...My family from PANAMA came here LEGALLY, with Visas on a freaking plane..now we are US LEGAL RESIDENTS...hold good jobs, have a great education...WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO ANGRY AT PEOPLE THAT ARE JUST LIKE YOU EXCEPT LESS FORTUNATE? Educate yourselves, ignorance is so unattractive!

Why are you suggesting that people who support immigration controls are ignorant, need education, and support these controls out of hatred? Perhaps it is you who should educate yourself to discover that differences in opinion does not equate to ignorance on behalf of those who disagree with you. Perhaps you should educate yourself on *why* people feel immigration controls are necessary - and you should do this in an unbias manner - just because immigration controls are a touchy subject for YOU does not mean this country should overlook the valid needs for such controls because they may efffect YOU or someone YOU know or families from other countries that need as much help as some families already here. Desiring immigration controls does not mean HATE and you are very self-absorbed to think so. Can you not think of any of the many, many reasons for such controls that have nothing to do with hate?

By the way....Native Americans were immigrants to. Did you not educate yourself on that? Europeans were, indeed, morally wrong to take the land we did......but if you are implying that we should return to the legalities and illegalities of that time and day....again, you should attempt to educate yourself. Ignorance is so unattractive....as are those who lack the vocabulary to express their ideas without stating disagreeable parties are ignorant.

Tranquilo Pana, Tranquilo,

First of all, we cannot generalize cause is not every American that feels that way. I have to agree with most of the answers because it is not about disliking hispanics or immigrants, It is about disliking "illegal" immigrants. I do have to say, that in many cases I have been stared at in a nasty way, only cause I speak spanish (I am a US citizen, whos first language is Spanish) and that is not right either. I also have to say that I agree with you in the Education part. Many people are not educated in some of the issues that pertain to immigration and they just give their opinions without knowing the facts. There is a lack of communication that creates all the problems that we are having right now. There should be a law, that is the bottom line, what should be in that law is another deal.
I understand your point of view, cause I am just like you, A Panamanian and an American; but I can also understand them. One good example is Why in te world we have to say the Pledge of Alliance of The United States of America in Spanish in some of the Public Schools in Texas? Think about that..>Would you ever see someone in PAnama doing the "Juramento a La Bandera" in English? No way Jose...There is a lack of respect from certain groups of both cultures and as long as there is no agreement on this issue, there will always be problems.

Legal hispanic immigrants are up against it, for sure. There is blind ignorance of course, but also that naggin doubt in many peoples' minds that any Hispanic may just be illegal, simply because so many here are illegal. I am an immigrant too but I happen to be white and a native English-speaker so I do not face the same prejudices that you do.

If it is any consolation think of it this way - illegal immigrants tend to stay in low-paying jobs. Legal immigrants, if they choose to assimilate, frequently progress to quite high levels. I know Alberto Gonzalez is not the flavor of the month right now, but see how far he got.

EDIT: Oh boy, you really destroyed your credibility with the statement about CA, NM & TX. If you care to consult your history books, you will see that Texas broke away from Mexico and, some years later, of its own free will, became part of the USA. That is a matter of people exercising their free right to choose whom they pool their sovereignty with.

Sadly, your passionate argument turned into a hateful rant demonstrating ignorance of this important topic.

As far back as I can remember,Americans have always been very closed-minded when it comes to immigrants whether they were illegal or legal. It makes me laugh how people think it's so easy to come here legally (it's not),and how now all of a sudden everybody is an expert on Latin America and our culture.Every time I go back to Panama,I see plenty of American people.Panamanians, for the most part go out of their way to be polite to them also.

Hmmm, interesting, personally I don't know anyone who is against immigration. Everyone the other person mentioned is only against Illegal Aliens, not immigration.

Since I was born here, I am a Native American, so what? Even the original inhabitants immigrated across the land bridge from Europe. Perhaps you should do a bit more education yourself to see that this is not a question of hating Hispanics (who of course are a cultural subdivision of caucasians and not a separate race) but a matter of not wanting the US destroyed by illegal aliens coming here without any intention of integrating into US society.

Regardless of who took what from who...... I pay taxes. I live in the United States part of my paycheck goes to welfare - so explain to me why I should have to go to work 40+ hours a week to pay for someone to come here and collect a check knowing that when I retire - there won't be Social Security for me?

I don't hate Hispanics or any other race. Anyone who is here, bettering their life, working and paying taxes is a welcomed citizen in my eyes.

You should be more offended than anyone - your family struggled to get here legaly, and I'm sure it wasn't easy - and now they are paying to support criminals (and by criminal I mean you live in a country that you have not gone through the proper channels to obtain citizenship)

YOUR ignorance is overwhelming

If you are here legally, why are you acting so angry and outraged? You went through the legal channels and why are you trying to throw out the race card?? I find that throwing out the race card shows that you can't see things objectively and often nowadays, it's not even used to describe real racists but bully people into taking your side.

As far as the racial issue goes. When will this country wake up and realize that racists come in all shapes, colors, sizes and genders??? Racists are afraid, they are fearful out of ignorance and there are several methods used to keep people afraid.

Ever notice how the media selectively picks what stories to air?

You see the black man pegged as the robber and rapist. The latino man as a robber and rapist too. The old white man as the pedophile. The women as feminazis. Think this selectiveness is there for no reason?

I'm insulted by people like you who are so quick to categorize anyone and everyone against illegal immigration as racists and you do it in an attempt to bully and I'm not going to tolerate your insulting behavior.

Once apon a time when people were branded racists, they actually were! Once apon a time when people were branded misogynists, they actually were. You know how annoyed I get when I hear other women throwing out that term every chance they get when debating with men even though the male wasn't treating her as inferior?? Very insulting!
That pisses me off because it makes you look weak or makes being a woman seem weak when there are many strong women, many intelligent women and these terms are no longer serious because they are now watered down.

Thanks for adding onto the disease of political correctness that is now being used to force people into silence. It doesn't mean it's going to work for long because it's become so old and watered down that you're going to have to come up with a whole new catch word now because of how far down into the ground so many have buried it.

Exactly, why are YOU so ignorant about immigration? Hmm. France used to control/own Mexico so y'all should get out of Mexico too based on your rambling logic. I think the issue is ILLEGAL not legal immigrants. I'll bet YOUR family learned the language and adopted a modern 21st century culture and attitude rather than transplanting old world values, not learning the language, and becoming mere fodder for corporate greed. Time to rethink how YOU and YOUR family differ from the illegal flood of immigrants then ask yourself some questions.

Nice rant.

Look up the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and the Gadsden Purchase before you accuse a Country of stealing land. We paid for it sparky...right after we kicked Mexicos butt in the Mexican-American war of 1846-1848. Prior to that the Texans kicked Santa Anas backside in 1836.

Education...the other white meat.

Keyword id....LEGAL. As US is currently a welfare state, we supply a hammock for virtually any one who slips in, wants another set of children, and has a poor paying job. Illegals feel no compulsion to pay for pregnancies, misadventures with the law, or sickness they may bring with them even. Neither do they care if they will be able to send 5 children to college later on...
A Nigerian came here, bought a store on credit for $100,000 then cashed fake money orders for $2 million dollars!
I heard he got away with the crime somehow...This is what turns hard-working regular born here people against SOME immigrants...that and any of them doing CRIMES.
