Why is it that people force their beliefs on others? It's ok for you to have an opinion different than mine and I respect it...why can't others simply do the same? It seems like most of the atheists bash Christians just as bad as those "fake Christians" bashed them. Why do the same that hurt you?

Obviously, I didn't mean gonna kill you force..I meant like they bash you if you don't believe in what they believe in. Let me clarify some more, you believe in God, they don't... and they write "its a fantasy world I'm living in"...or "my pretend friend". That is pretty insulting if you ask me!

My chief concern is when beliefs are 1.) harmful or 2.) invalid by their own terms. How can I let people go on with contradictory beliefs if they aren't aware of them? I point out logical fallacies, I make arguments, I try to undo what has been imposed upon them... but usually to little effect. Still, I try. I don't try to prove or disprove God because that's impossible. Mostly I deal with people who believe they can, one way or the other. I don't like the idea of people having faith in God, but any arguments I might make there really do nothing. I deal with what is already known and established, not with what cannot be known.

You cannot "force" a belief on others. You can explain your belief to others. They can then choose to accept or reject it. All this nonsense about "forcing a belief" on someone is technically impossible. Even were you to be tortured (force) the torturer could not FORCE a belief on you. You could lie and say "HEY that's a great belief!" and not mean it.
What you mean is why can't people just take no for an answer? And that would be fine but for the fact that the R&S Q&A section is filled with passionate people, it is a cyber bear pit or a cybearpit, much akin to some of the political forums I have seen. But let us remain accurate if we can;t all agree on religion. NO one can force their beliefs on anyone, all they can do is bore the other person to death or give them something to argue about or grapple with and perhaps in some cases the belief will end up being shared by both parties.

Theists, especially christians, try to control and restrict us based on their views. If all christians stop crusading against science, culture, art, sex and sexuality, religious freedom and such, and stop telling everybody else they're going to be tortured throughout eternity unless they join you, I assure you that you won't encounter nearly as much hostility.
Force our beliefs? Have you ever heard an atheist claim the pledge or currency should claim there are no gods?

Some beliefs are dangerous. For example, if someone believes he or she is sent by God to destroy all human life on this planet, would you still respect that belief and allow him or her to follow through with it?
Other beliefs are mostly harmless, and we can tolerate the ones that are not dangerous.

I have several thoughts about this:
* Perhaps those who are giving their opinion really care about the subject, and feel very strongly.
* Perhaps those who recieve the opinions do not like what is said and rather than blow it off they take it personally.

Who's holding a weapon to your head princess? Call the police if they are... otherwise nobody's forcing their beliefs on anyone else... only YOU can change YOUR OWN mind, nobody else can do it for you.
