This is a sincere question. Also, if you wear jeans do you wear a shirt over them, since jeans can be fairly tight and revealing? Men are becoming more and more immodest.

Brother ashrf6581, I hate to put it this way but I can basically see your awrah if your pants are too tight. And there are plenty of men (just like women) who do not have this dignity you speak of. Astaghfirullah! There are men who wear shorts or sport pants with no underwear on! Astaghfirullah! PPL can see everything, of course they turn their heads away but the men still do this. Astaghfirullah! Unfortunately, this has happened to others sisters and myself at work.

Everything is allowed for men in Islam some openly some discreetly. All hell breaks loose when it comes to women. The problem in Islam is with women. It's all about controlling them and you see them in different shades and severity levels in various Islamic countries. The problem is enforcing Sharia law and wrong interpretations of Quran by force. So please don't get into that kind of Islamic mindset (as you are a new convert) where you try to think and do everything guided by Quran. Religion is only for spiritual guidance and not to control you life and your life style. You choose your clothes and life what you think is logically good and you are happy and OK with it. Enjoy you life the way you had been and don't get brain washed like many new converts have.

You are right, the lower garment (pants, thobe etc) should be above the ankle. There is a hadeeth that says 'any portion of the lower garment that is below the ankles is in the hellfire.'
Based on this and several others about dragging garments scholars have ruled on the above the ankle issue.

for the pants one yeah.
the second question it differs from man to man. nowadays most men try to wear jeans in a way that dont reveal thier bu**s and tight in the waist by lowering the jeans. there is no problem in Islam.

Though i wear jeans too but If you asking in real Islamic terms yes its an immodest dress for a man too cuz your body shape becomes prominent that may attract others eye..Haya is for man also not only for females. The area from Naval to Knees is must to cover for every male and showing this area to anyone is Haram. As far covering ankles concerned Islam wants u to keep your trousers over ur ankles however these days many people are seen keeping their trousers near ur knees that is very very immodest and unislamic it again is the case of showing your body to others without any reason....A man should care of his body same as woman and should keep it only and only for his spouse not for the entertainment of whole world. I told you the limits of islam i.e. from Naval to Knees rest all is called "Taqwah" example Fasting is must in Ramadan only but if u observe in other days its called "Taqwah" Taqwah is directly connected to sprituality (sufism) the more u will kill ur worldly wishes the more u will grow in sprituality till the time will come when u loose interst in any of the worldly joy u will really fear God and you will forget your own existance, you wil be sleeping but ur heart will be saying Allah Allah this is the time when ur eyes sleep and ur heart is awoken, veils will b lifted from your eyes and u can c what u never seen before, Just one example again....Imam Abu Hanifa was doing Ablution once, when a person do ablution(Wadhu) for prayers his sins are flown away with water thus he seen a person doing wadhu and his sins and he prayed to God that Allah take my this ability back as its some ones secret between u and Him, got my point this is the peak of sufism when all these veils are taken away......and thus everyones spritual levels vary according to his level of Taqwah....example i heard about a sufi who came to Madinah Al Munawarah, the city of our Prophet peace be upon him, and the person who seen him said he was giving breads to the dogs of Madinah (over 30 years back im talking about these days u will hardly see any dog there) and saying that they are better than me that they live in Madinah atleast...and connected to this city......so this is the basis of sufism that kill ego.....hope u got the point.

I always care this matter since this instruction comes in authentic Hadith. Islam asks men and women to be modest. Allah has ordered the hijab of men first than the hijab of women in Surah Al-Nur.
Man or woman in a modest dress tells us that they cherish something greater in life than their physical appearance. They live for a couse.

My husband's pants fall right around his ankle, and are never too long. And he does wear his shirts untucked so no one can see his butt! :-) (except me, when I want to!) For a man, he is modest.
