it says its ok to wet it- just not wash it with shampoo

It's because the natural oils of your un-shampooed hair help protect your scalp during the hair coloring process.

I think it's because washing your hair strips the natural oils off. So, if you dye your hair right after washing it..it's going to be more damaging. Your hair shouldn't be greasy when you dye it though..so usually just wash it the day before you plan to dye it.

If you do wash your hair wait 2 days before you dye it. this will give your scalp time to produce natural oils.
