Why is it in the last 25 years there has been no significant change in the temperature of the earth? Via satellite and weather balloons measurements made globally - the earth has remain constant and the protective layer of the earth unhampered.
Yes, we have had some surface changes, but that is not unusual - if you study history of the earth - not only does the earth have seasons - Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter - it also has large cycles of surface freezing and warming - Does anyone remember the painting of George Washington Crossing the Delaware?? It was frozen over - now ask anyone alive today or even in the early late 1800's and early 1900's if they remember seeing the Delaware frozen over. -- that was part of the earths little Ice Age.
Making the earths natural cycles to fit ones political agenda is ridicules. Taking care of the planet is cool but the doom and gloom crap is for the idiots and fools - what do you think?

Again taking care of the planet is a good thing...no argument there.

Now, yes I have never disagreed with the warming of the planet...but man made sensationalism does not address the warming of the planet and what conditions we will live in as the planet heats up from natural causes (if they are natural causes) - hence when people lived in the Little Ice Age - it was to say the least not pleasant, but as someone pointed out - people just held ice fairs and handled it the best they could. (My kinda of people, but maybe they "the humans" caused the Little Ice Age. Sorry couldn't resist throwing a little sarcasm in there)
But back to - if it is natural - and the planet is going to get hotter no matter what we Grandiose Human Beings think we can do about it. Has anyone considered any back up plan? or are we just making things the way we perceive they should be and fooling ourselves only to find we never planned for a naturally hot cycle?
Hey, if the questions are to hard and don't fit your perception, by all means - do what you got to.

It does not matter what I or anyone else thinks because there is no changing the cyclic changes our planet is going through.

Yes, I agree with your opening statement. Sometimes the intentions are ill-founded but, as they say, it's the thought that counts.
The Earth's temperature has actually been increasing for the last 25 years, much longer in fact - on and off for 18,000 years now (mostly on with a few off periods thrown in). Back then there was a sudden rise in temps which caused the most recent glacial retreat, after 7,500 years temps more or less levelled off again and it took a further 10,000 years for temps to rise just 1°C. Now we've come along and messed things up and in the last 150 years temps have really started rising, much faster than the natural changes that went before.
I'm not sure where you got your information from, I'd be interested to have a look as I beleive it may be wrong. Globally there's been a rise of 0.39°C in the last 25 years (from a 1980 ten year mean of 14.14°C to a 2005 ten year mean of 14.53°C), back when the glaciers were retreating it would have taken 420 years for temps to rise by this amount.
Not sure when Washington crossed the Delaware, I guess around 1790. Back then the Earth was coming out of a the Little Ice Age and some rivers frequently froze. Every so often the Thames in London froze and they'd hold Frost Fairs on the ice. Rivers tend not to freeze so much these days because the climate is warmer, pollutants prevent freezing and engineering schemes have straightened, narrowed, channeled rivers so that they're often faster flowing.
You mentioned the Earth's natural cycles. This is a complex area because there's several of them, the cycles span different periods and they interact in complicated ways. It's a bit like the planets - there's several of them, they have different cycles, they interact with each other, are constantly changing and the same pattern never occurs twice. And like the planets, we can calculate where each cycle is at. The shortest of Earth's cycles lasts for 19,000 years (it's the one that governs the Earth's gyroscopic motion, the south pole being 'fixed' whilst the north pole completes an arc).
Over these long periods of time Earth's cycles have an important role to play in the climate of our planet but the effect is far less significant over periods of decades or centuries.
There's also the Sun as well and this too has many cycles but again, they don't make much difference over short periods of time.
I beleive the 'doom and gloom crap' is over stated and the media can justifiably be accused of frequent sensationalism. But I do beleive, after having studied this for many years, that global warming and climate change is a serious issue and one that we need to be addressing now if we're to mitigate against problems in the future.

Bravo!
One of the few who actually has facts and understands that the earth is an ever changing environment. The earth has changed from the beginning and will continue to do so until it dies. And man, in his insignificance, has and always will adapt to those changes.
But I wonder how long it will be before Al Gore starts calling for human sacrifice to appease the Sun God?
As I read some of the other answers I am truly amazed. Let's all take a breath and think about this.... In the beginning dinosaurs ruled the earth and the earth was warm, lush and covered in jungle. And then the Dinosaur's died. Why you ask, well could it be from something called the ICE AGE? A period of time when a large portion of the world was covered in ice and cold.
And just a thought about solar panels. What do the laws of thermodynamics tell us? if heat (the sun) is converted to energy (electricity) the heat is lost. Want to stop global warming? Cover the earth in solar panels and the earth will cool dramatically! Course we will all die but the earth will be cool.

I dont think I need a list of facts one way or another to know that what we do on this planet is far from good.
Im glad to see politicians actually talking about issues that can effect the whole world, and not just a select few. Regardless of their own political intentions, there is nothing wrong with suggesting we change our lifestyles, and forcing people to look at how they live their day to day lives. I think we all need a huge wake up call. We arent just killing the planet slowly but surely, we are killing ourselves. A load of selfish, lazy gluttons who think everything is there for our convenience. Ya, im generalizing, but the bad does outweigh the good and there is no getting around that.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, " let there be light: and there was light. (Gen1 and chpt.2).
Man don't know where they come from and so they don't know where they are going. Everything that has a beginning has an end. All of our talking and theologies don't make a difference, that too must cease. The real question is Do you know the one who knows you and evertything about everything? Read Matthew 24 and make your decision.
God bless!

I think we should definitely take care of the planet, just like you would want to take care of your own house or yard. I live in LA and don't see many people making a good example. The smog is ridiculous and harmful. I just moved into the mountains where it is cleaner and my children haven't been to the doctor since, vs. living in Burbank and visiting the doctor's more than once a month. But all these people believe man-made global warming is here, yet they don't recycle (most of them) and they won't take the bus, carpool, or drive without AC. My boss is always claiming global warming is going to kill us, but he routinely throws his cans and bottles in the garbage, rather then in the recycle bins I brought into the company. He actually called me from his cell when he was pulled up next to me because he didn't want to roll his windows down and let out the AC. It was only 85 degrees. These examples are everywhere. On video shoots 4 video shoots I've been on, there was not one recycling barrel (And, there has only been 1 ethnic minority, and he was in a lowly position). This to me proves global warming intentions are purely political.

yes I'm very concern and it is getting warmer, I know a lot of people don't believe it but I do I have seen it comming for year's. I remember when the Ohio river froze over and ppl drove on it and I was in my 20's . I believe from all the blacktop and concreat to make interstates and roof''s on ppl's home and lack of planting tree's. All of this is just a small pieace of global warming.

I think your science is wrong. Take temperature.

Early on satellite data was misinterpreted. It mingled low level tropospheric data (which showed warming) with high level stratospherivc data, which showed cooling because of reduced ozone levels.
Does this guy have a political agenda to support liberals and environmentalists?
"Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives Tuesday to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

Go back and research the stats since temperatures were started to be recorded in the mid 1800's. I think it's 7 out of 10 heat breaking years have been in the last 15-20 years. So, this doesn't seem to be a natural cycyle. Also, many of the ice forms that are melting and/or turning to mush have been frozen for 1,000 years....
I'd rather be a doom and gloom idiot than deny that we're in dire straights.

Most of the people are well meaning but there are always a few who aren't. There are corporate interests in ethano; that don't care what this process is doing to the food supply for example. As for CO2 if there is too much in the atmosphere it should be removed rather than quibble over how much CO2 you are allowed to dump. It ain't all that a taxing job afterall.
