How do you dispute past due on your credit history?

You can try to dispute it by saying that you were never late.

If it is a closed account that is showing lates, you run a risk of losing the whole trade line if you dispute the lates. Which could drop your scores.

The lates will remain on your reports for 7 years from the date of the late. Once the lates fall off, and if they were the only negative on the account, the account will move over to the positive part of your credit report and remain as a positive for many years.

If it's a closed account, you might want to think about whether it's worth the risk of losing it before you dispute it.

Notify the credit agency that the disputed item is on and be prepared to prove you paid the disputed item on time with cancelled checks, credit card statement or however you paid the item. Once you contact them it takes a while after you submit the proof for them to investigate but is a fairly simple process. Good luck!
