Don't do it. Call your pharmacist and ask him. Alcohol usually make the affects of the medicine MORE. You could be so relaxed that you could go in a coma. I know that a lot of people take these meds and drink but they are just lucky.

It is always recommended not to drink while you are taking medications. Many oral meds go through hepatic metabolism in order to be absorbed by the small intestine. So is alcohol. It competes with the meds for metabolism, which in turn decreases the efficacy of the meds. Basically, you are not getting what you pay for, and you can have episodes of panic attacks or depression while still on the meds. Depakote and Zoloft both fit into this category.

If you're taking Depakote, it's likely for a seizure disorder, or
neuropathic pain, including migraines.

Most people have problems with seizure control and alcohol, while alcohol usually aggravates migraines. Don't know it's effects on neuropathic pain.

I'd venture a guess, that since Zolaft is metabolized in the liver, alcohol (which also affects the liver) potentiates the effect of the Zolaft.

Should alcohol be used with ANY antidepressant? Initially alcohol is a stimulant, but the end result is CNS depression.
