often i hear people arguing what gender God is, wanting to call God female and Mother; however, i've never heard anyone argue what gender Satan is... everyone seems happy to leave this one male.

Oh, I don't know. Lots of men seem to believe that certain women are devils of one stripe or another. But your point is well made: traditional images of Satan or the Devil are male. That's because an important part of what he represents is male sexuality. At the very least, that's crucial to the Devil Tarot card. And you know all that stuff about witches having sexual relations with "the devil?" That was probably a priest dressed as the horned (horny) god.
