Well from what I had gathered from Yahoo, is that just blocking someone keeps them from adding you as a contact or viewing their Q&A. Well though you can view their answers if you are smart enough to find them, you cannot answer or see their questions if they have blocked you.
So in a nutshell, isn't this just a way of filtering out the answers that will now be answers you like by blocking people you know don't agree with you? Of course it would be impossible to block every person who didn't agree with you...but the regulars that you know would disagree with you are easily blocked.
Is that fair at all?

perhaps they are afraid of these people they block, because they actually make valid arguments?

Saint, that is true. But that is in the case of narrow-mindedness remarks that lack substance. This is not the case in other blockings.

I've been blocked by 12 people.....that I know of. I don't have a problem with the feature. It's one way to clean up a question so you only get positive answers. I'm sure a certain-someone will take advantage of that feature as often as she can.

That is not the case all the time. I have a person that everytime I post a question or answer the question, he is calling me a fat*** or a hooker. I have reported this same guy 7 times and I blocked him, then a week later I unblocked him thinking he would stop. He found me and kept writing nasty things to me. I had to report him today 5 times because he went through all my questions that I answer and made harrassing statements about me.
I am happy that feature exists.

I think the point is to discourage trolls... which is the roundabout way of saying you are right. Is it fair? I think so. I know everyone forgets, but the point of the communication on this board is to learn and share. If someone is making prejudiced narrow minded remarks, I don't see how any communication or learning is supposed to be achieved. For example, I just read this question:
"Where do I go for information on the occult for free?"
Answer: "You will burn in Hell forever."
I don't think anything was accomplished by that answer, do YOU think its fair for people to have to take that abuse?

I think so, although some may use it more correctly to block people who are truly harassing them.
I find it childish and silly to block someone just because they do not agree with your opinion. I will not block anyone.

Yes it is. A few people are continually abusive and it gets old. Apparently I am undesirable to one person here today and they blocked me. That is their option. I have noticed an unusual malice today among the posters too. I blocked a few people, Christian and atheist.
Afraid? Ha ha...

i think any question should be an open question to anyone... i know there are people who come on here and just say hateful stuff, but ... you can't "block" people in real life. you learn to deal with them.

How can we have the fun and joy of airing our differences if everyone agrees with us?

I don't think so. Some of the people here are downright hateful...I wouldn't mind never hearing from them again.
