She will not drink out of a fresh bowl set by her food, she prefers to drink out of the toliet, and acts annoyed with me when I put the lid down (like "hello...I need to drink water you know!!") She will try to drink the water out of the footspa, when my friends and I are doing pedicures, (like hot sudsy water is so much more appealing than the fresh, cool water bowl by her food!) She will even try to drink the water out of our tall glasses, and gets her face and whiskers all smashed inside the glass...(most cats I thought avoided sticking their head inside stuff?) Why won't she drink like a normal cat?

Hey, this isn't that weird. Cats generally prefer running water, which is why she'll prefer the footspa - soapy and warm won't matter to her, it's running! Yummy! Not unusual to drink out of the toilet either. And yeah, many cats will avoid sticking their heads in stuff, but they're all different.

I don't think you've got anything to worry about here! Your kitty is obviously just a bit more adventurous than some.

I do not have your answer but I have a cat just like that! He likes to drink and play in the toilet! He will get his front paws inside the bowl and lean down in the water. He splashes the bathroom floor something awful and also seems displeased with me when I close the lid. He rarely will drink HIS water. He gets into the shower after I'm finished and drinks the water from the walls and tub. He will not put his head in a glass but he will put his paws in anything liquid sitting around. Very bothersome but we love him just the same.

Try giving her cold water that you have chilled over night in the refrigerator. It maybe the chemicals in the fresh water that she does not like. And yes some cats will drink from drinking glasses. I've seen some that have done that. And drinking from the toilet is no more odd than having a cat who thinks she is a guard dog. When my cat looks out side and spots another dog in the yard she will growl like a dog at them. It's funny to see her do that.

I agree that alot of cats are weird about where they drink their water. Typically any cats I've had always want to lap up the left over water in the bathtub. My boy cat (who is sick) loves to drink out of the bathtub, sink, and only the water bowl if he sees me put fresh water in. He's also tried drinking out of glasses, but at the time he did, I didn't have water in it, but orange juice! He actually lapped up some of it until I caught him and stopped him. It is all normal for them. Have had cats drink out of the toilet too. Don't think anything bad can really happen to them because of it.

Cats can be very picky about how they drink. I have one that refuses to drink anything but running water, so a cat drinking fountain takes up room on my kitchen floor! Also, what color is her bowl? This may sound wierd but my mother has several cats that would drink out of everything but their bowl until she tried a black bowl. They love the black bowl! I think it is because they can actually see that there is water in the black bowl because of the reflection. No reflection in the light colored bowls...

Cat's are truly amazing and complex animals aren't they? Perhaps that is why we love them so much. I think they are predisposed to do exactly what we DON'T want them to do. My mother's cat has three bowls of fresh water available to her at all times. One by her food, one in the bathtub and one on the front porch...of course she drinks water from the slimy fountain full of green water. I agree that you should continue closing the toliet seat. Eventually she will come around. Good luck!

your cat is being a cat. Just make sure she don't fall in the toilet and get stuck or drink water with cleaner in it and all is fine. My cat will drink form a bowl but also like to drink from bathroom sink and only that sink. That IS normal for your cat. We may not always know why cats do what they do and thats what makes them cats.

A lot of cats are just weird about water.I had one that would only drink if I washed her bowl and replaced the water several times a day with fresh. She also liked to drink bath water and would lick soap! I've had several toilet drinkers, too and one that would meow until you turned on the bathroom faucet so he could drink straight from it.

My cat was the same way. He developed chronic urinary tract infections ( I dont think there was any connection between them and his drinking habits) but I had to start trying to get him to drink a lot more water daily. I bought a water bowl that filters and circulates the water and he loves it. We no longer have to guard our water glasses or worry that there are cleaning chemicals in the toilet.

I believe it is because cats as well as other animals are creatures of habit. She has adjusted to using the toilet to drink from. She will not starve of thirst if you close the lid forcing her to use the bowl. Do that for a few weeks and she should be back to the bowl. I don't recommend the toilet because she could get a bacteria. Good luck!
