I have been housing a few abandoned kittens. Two of the three I have left are males. Occasionally I'll walk into my bathroom and smell a strong odor of cat urine. I do not have their litter box in the bathroom and it usually happens RIGHT after I've spent 1/2 an hour cleaning the bathroom! My kittens are only 9 weeks old, is it possible that one (or both males) are marking their territory? I assumed (or moreso HOPED) that indoor male cats would not do this. What can I do to make it stop?

It is possible for indoor cats to mark their territory, whether they are male or female, neutered or not. A cat's territory is whereever it lives, be it indoors or outdoor.

I think it's likely that the kittens are the cause of this spraying. Cats are pretty sensitive, any change to their normal surroundings can make them feel the need to reassert their territorial rights. The arrival of a bunch of kittens would be very likely to make a cat spray. I'm not surprised he does it after you clean the bathroom - after all, you've just washed away all his scent, now he has to go and put it back all over again!

As for making it stop - hm, it may not stop until the kittens are gone and your cat no longer feels the need to spray. Neutering may also help if he's not already done. If the kittens are going to be around a while, he may settle down in time, particularly if you give him a chance to get to know the kittens - supervised of course. How old are they? There are also sprays you can buy to discourage territory marking.

Yes, male cats will mark their territory especially if they aren't fixed. For the most part after this is done the problem will disappear but some of my cats still do this after being fixed. This is a rarity and probably something you don't need to be concerned about but nothing is guaranteed. This spraying usually will only continue if in a multiple cat household. Good luck!

Yes!!! He's going to You have got to neuter him at 6 months of age or . Don't wait past that factor. Sorry, no offence, but your husband is being a moron. Some guys look to have some silly dangle-up about neutering male animals. It's so stupid really. The cat will nonetheless be male, he just won't break your residence! For those who value your residence in any respect, get him constant at 5 or 6 months old. THen I promise you he'll under no circumstances spray. If you happen to do not repair him, I promise you he will spray, and after he starts spraying, even neutering may not stop. GET HIM constant. GET HIM fixed. Take him without your husband knowing about it if you happen to have to. He'll recover from it when he finds out (in a while). Simply tell him you worth your condo more than his (your husband's) silly male macho stupid hold-ups.

Either you just need to train it to go to the litter box OR it's because the cat's ancestors marked their territory so the cats are just following their natural instincts. It is very natural.

Have your male kittens been spayed or neutered? If not, then visit the vet, that should fix the problem.

In order for them to stop marking their territory, you will have to have them neutered.
