They go to jail? Jesus, that's severe! For how long? Thanks!

Lol, I knew it was only a matter of time before someone asked me that! No, I am not suicidal, and no one I know is (trust me, if I was trying to kill myslef, I WOULDN'T fail ;). I'm just researching for a short story I'm writing (I know, I'm sick, everybody says it).

Not necessarily. Normally if the individual ends up in hospital for their physical injuries, a psychiatrist would visit them and evaluate their behaviour to establish whether or not isloation is necessary to protect the individual from repeating the attempt.

Personally, I ended up in a regular hospital for physical treatment after a suicide attempt, and my psychiatrist sat by my bed, smiled and said 'this is just a set back'. I went back home three days later.

I hope you feel better if this is a personal worry, take care.

It would depend on their condition. Were they were taken by ambulance to the EM? Are they in a coma, cut wrists, gun shot? They could be taken to the intensive care unit. Depends where there is a bed available. They would definitely be hospitalized. Eventually admitted to a psychiatric ward in a regular hospital and if your local hospital doesn't have that kind of a ward it would be to Psychiatric hospital.

I'm curious as to why you would ask that question. Are you planning on killing yourself? God has a plan for everyone and has given people the gift of helping those who are in a suicidal state. Reach out and get help from the people God has placed in your area.

depends on the state you live in, although in any state your family can go before a judge and have you admitted to a psych unit with probable cause (which a failed suicide attempt would be). In CA, you will be admitted without any question. Call your local hospital or police non-emergency number and they can let you know for sure what the rules are where you live. also, you will NOT go to jail for an attempted suicide. I come from a long line of cops and have asked this question myself. they do not take people who attempt suicide to jail. although it is technically a crime, you will be taken to the ER. end of story.

If that person went to a doctor afterwards, the doctor would legally have to admit that person to a hospital if they believed the injury was self-inflicted and the individual could still be a danger to himself/herself and those around him/her.

If someone you love attempts suicide, a stay at a psychiatric hospital for them can be really helpful in the healing process. Assure them it is not their fault, and that they need to get help.

Yes they would...IF someone knew about it. AND if someone did try to commit suicide and others knew about it then it's a cry for help. A person who WANTS to commit suicide- WILL, and no one will really know until it's too late. If the person tries and has to go to the hospital, the hospital WILL KEEP you for observation until they think that you are not a threat to you or others. You will have to get therapy and medication if they find that you have a disorder.

Of course! My husband is fighting depression and suicidal thoughts and they put him in just for thinking about it, he never attempted it. After he told the doctor, she pretty much told him that if he didn't go willing, she would call the police. He went, because he knew that he didn't want to die and leave his family, so he felt he was doing the right thing. He may still have the thought, but like I said he is fighting it with every fiber of his being.

It depends on the kind of attempt.
If it is proved that he/she is not insane that person will not get admitted,
but in case if the person is poved to have any mental illness he/she will be admittde for sure

depends on where you live, but in many states, an attempted suicide is involuntarily committed for a minimum of 72 hours for full mental evaluation by a psychiatrist, they also go to jail, after the evaluation, suicide is illegal.
