Think about the happy things and forget what stresses you

This works for me, no guarantees for you though.

I find that a negative thought only repeats if I stop it before it completes.

If I start thinking about seeing or doing something horrible, then suddenly stop when I realize the horror of it, not believing I could imagine such a thing. This will cause the thought to begin again later.

If I allow the thought to thoroughly complete in my head, imagining the pain and consequences and what would happen next or what would have to be done and continue until I'm thoroughly DONE with the thought, it generally does not come back.

If you think about it, that's what happens with your positive thoughts, isn't it? Is it any surprise that negative thoughts would act the same way.

A good way to fight negative thoughts is with positive thoughts that oppose them. Find TRUE, GOOD thoughts that contradict the negative ones and fill your mind with the good thoughts so there won't be enough room to hold the bad ones. I have had your problem a LOT and it drove me crazy for a long time, but I have gotten better through lots of prayer and reading the Bible. The world is full of unhealthy thoughts/ideas, so it helps to have BETTER thoughts to use in overruling the bad thoughts.

pray. workout. and talk about it. Therapy is only good b/c you get to put out your negative thoughts and realize that, they really arn't that serious. If you have a good friend or family member who you trust and is willing to listen, you don't need therapy. The key is to talk about what is bothering you resolve your problem and move on.

i have to do therapy and medications. they say to turn your negative thoughts into positive ones. i also like to meditate and do controlled breathing. having to take medicine isnt a shameful thing. it really does help.

good luck,
karen

Ok, what you need to do is try and concentrate in your breathing and make sure you are doing it right (no shallow breaths) if you concentrate in your breathing, your mind is occupied with that and has no space to keep on those negative thoughts, visit About.com they have some good excercises.
