My apartment is painted the same color everywhere and while it isn't hideous...it gets kind of annoying. I would use different colors that are in a same color scheme

Trends aside, you certainly can use one color to unify your whole home, then break up each room with different accent colors. When you are looking at adjacent spaces, open area rooms, and transitional spaces (entries, hallways, stairwells) make sure your accent colors match each other so you have a smooth trip through the house.
Unless harvest gold is one of your very favs and has been for a while, I would rethink that particular color because it sounds like a color that would get old fast. Not because it's deep and rich but because it is kind of retro trendy and has a throwback factor that is kind of hard to get over (all the old 70's appliance colors do).
It's also worth noting that in terms of color psychology, yellow induces anxiety which is why it is used in warning signs and caution lights (to prick up your senses so you can pay more attention). You don't want to feel like that all the time in your home?
I think a more versatile idea is either a little paler of any shade, including yellow if you love it, or if you must use a deep rich color use one that is less warm or cool, so you have some accent color options over time.

Unless you are interested only in resale and don't intend to live there go with neutrals in the warmer tones.
If you intend to live there then do what appeals to you, if you only choose what to do on the basis of trend, then when the trend changes next year you will have something thats not only slightly out of date, but that you don't like anyway.
Generally, if you can see one room from another, they should be harmonious, if you plan to use an accent color on a wall, it should be on the most important one. If its a small place one color and it variations work best, a large or multilevel you can use several
But do something you like, so it reflects you and not House Beautiful.

The trend does not really matter if you are happy! Both ways are acceptable!! I have four bedrooms and none of them are the same at all. However, they all do have one thing in common....they are shades lighter or darker than the shade my main rooms are painted in. This gives you a flow throughout the house and picks up the colors of your accent pieces as well.
Best of luck!!

Shades of colors within the same family of color. I did my entire house in 3 very close but neutral shades of sage green. My neighbor did hers in similar taupes. But you can paint everything in one color if you like. Be careful with yellows....they dry dramatically different than the sample. To make sure you get the right color ask for a small can to sample. Paint a small spot and then decide if it's right.

1.) No, I am currently sitting in a room that looks like that and while it has a terrific first impression, every second that I sit in it my spleen hurts a little bit more.
2.) The current trend is different colors in each room. You can see some excellent examples if you visit the bear paint website.

If you plan on selling the house white is the way to go. If you are staying then any colors you'd like whether all the same or all different.

there was a house on hgtv.com, rate my space, yesterday that was all green. Every room was green, it got boring aftere a while and very predictable.
You can go all yellow- but vary the shades and make it look more interesting.

Do it even regardless of the undeniable fact which you like it. i'm repainting the finished indoors of my living house. I did distinctive colours in each room because of the fact the home is small and that i had to define each area.
