I was just wondering for feedback from others who have tried it. I trust my midwife, but thought I'd ask and see if anybody has negative... or positive... thoughts about it. Any problems, side effects, etc.? Thanks!

My OB had me take an additional 50mg of B6 and half a unisom twice a day. It really worked well for me, even better than the perscription drug she perscribed. I was also personally more comfortable taking the unisom as it has been around a lot longer than most perscription drugs and I talked to older women who had used it while pregnant.

Good Luck to you.

I've never heard of taking Unisom before. Is this not a sleep aid? Question your dr. before taking anything. A midwife is great for coaching you but you need a dr to tell you what is safe and what isn't. Most over the counter drugs are safe to take - wonder why she didn't recommend the non drowsey Dramamine? I am an RN and worked labor and delivery and while I think midwives are great, they are not Drs. and that is who you really should ask. I would never recommend a drug without asking a physician first which she may have done. It could be that the B6 combined with whatever is in Unisom, is something safer than other drugs -

When I was pregnant many years ago, they gave me a drug that I took at nighttime and it was great - later they took it off the market because of "side" effects. My babies had no problems but it really gets away with me when one drug is wonderful for years and then all of a sudden it's no longer safe.

You could probably take 1/2 a Dramamine before you go bed at night and keep crackers at your bedside in the mornings. But again confer with your physician. Please say you have one -

It's a whole lot better than puking.
They had nothing for morning sickness when I was pregnant -
the only approved med had just been taken off the market, and I
was allergic to the 'in hospital' drugs.
It's worth a try, and I haven't heard any negative feedback.

I was actually told to take Unisom for my morning sickness. It wasn't really helpful for me. I was more groggy than feeling better. It finally got to the point where I was so sick the doctor actually prescribed a medication normally given for nausea to patients undergoing chemotherapy. I can't remember the name of it (sorry!). It wasn't great either. It only helped a little and, as I am not one for taking a lot of medication (pregnant or not), I stopped taking it.

You should never take anything that your ob/gyn hasn't approved. Doctors don't even allow a pregnant woman to use nose spray, only saline. They say you can take an occassional Tylenol for headache but that's it. Taking Unisom is not smart in my opinion. It contains drugs to make you sleep. Do you think that's good for the fetus? I surely don't.
