This may be a stupid question. I saw once on here someone said they had to send DNA into AKC to prove that their White German Shepherd was a pure bred. Does the AKC have DNA on records where a sample can tell them if a dog is a pure bred? IF so, can the sample also tell them the blood line the dog is from? Just curious. I have a big GSD I rescued, and I know that the rescue said he was from a breeder, but in rescue they won't give out the former owners personal information.

The AKC has DNA on file for some SIRES of litters for identification purposes only, i.e. if there is some dispute over which dog sired a litter and how the litter should be registered, the pups' DNA can be matched with the SIRE'S DNA.
However, there is a recently developed test that determines what breeds your mixed breed dog is, which is not available from the AKC.

The DNA tests will show what genetics are in the sample. It proves that your dog is a purebreed. There are certain factors for each and every breed out there. On a "mutt" a DNA will provide the answer as to what breeds were mixed as well.

while it is true that the testing lab will send a nice certificate that the dog tests as a purebred, the AKC doesn't issue a full registation (an ILP number maybe) from that, because the exact parents remain unknown. The function of the registry is accurate (we hope) recording of the exact ancestry of the dog....

DNA will ONLY prove or DIS-PROVE the parents of an individual animal ***IF*** both parents profiles are already on file!!!

If you send in DNA they could tell you if your dog is full breed, and if it is not they tell you whit what other breeds that it is mixed with.
