I would wonder why people of any faith other than Christians get married, by that rationale.
(But FYI... marriage was originally little more than an acknowledgement that the father agreed to give a man his daughter, in return for a payment of sorts. IE - slavery)

Christians claim a lot of things. Claims and truths differ quite often.
At any rate people usually marry because they love each other and want to be together. Often they also want to raise a family.
How Christians think they own that in any way is beyond me. Their ceremony may be religious but marriage itself is not.

I'm a lifelong Christian, and have never heard that we "invented" marriage. There are many historical references to pre-Christian marriages, so that makes no sense whatsoever. Atheists get married for the same reason as anyone else: they wish to share their lives with one another.

There are so many religions that were in existence before Christianity but they have always claimed to be charge of everything spiritual. Look how belligerent they were during the Crusades. Marriage really has nothing to do with religion. It has everything to do with the two people who are joining together.

Many reasons. Mine is the tax benefits. I'm not currently married, but I won't rule out the possibily of getting married again in the future. But if Congress doesn't do anything about the death tax breaks disappearing next decade, I'll have no reason.
I don't need a piece of paper to tell me how I feel about someone.

Obviously, you aren't aware that marriage is NOT a Jewish or Christian idea. The Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Palestinians, Syrians, Africans, and Native Americans were all getting married long before the Fighters for El (Israelites, if you aren't to knowledgable of Jewish history) declared what they think god said.

Christians claim lots of things, that they invented marriage is one of the more easily disprovable.

marriage is a contractual arrangement between two people who are in a romantic relationship.
it has nothing to do with cultism.

Marriage has been around far longer than any religion. Its a promise to love each other forever and be together. Nothing more and nothing less.

I love it when they say that. As if marriage had not been around for centuries before their religion even existed. But then again a lot of them actually believe that theirs is the first religion as well.
