Vista was on the machine first. I used the partition program that comes on vista to create a new partition. I booted the xp installation disk which gave me a choice of which partition I wanted to use and I chose the one I created for xp.
It copied the files from the disk and asked me to insert the old copy of windows since this is a upgrade disk. Then I rebooted the computer to finish the installation and now it just gets stuck on the first bios screen and won't go past that. It won't boot any cd. It says American Megatrends AMI Bios tried hitting delete and F8, nothing. I chose not to use NTFS when choosing the partition because I thought Vista allready handled that when I created the partition.

Maybe you need to boot it twice because there are two of them now. I think it's called "double booting"

Before you try this I suggest getting a friend to help you if you are not familiar enough with configuring a computer. Ok from what I can tell you are not even able to get into the bios. If you can't get into bios thats not good and you might have to try clearing it out. Hopefully you still have a copy or a place to download and burn the motherboard software. To clear it out power down, unplug from the wall and pop out that little watch battery on your motherboard. This will reset your bios to its factory settings so you will have to go in and make all necessary tweaks and configs again. If you can get in after that try reinstalling XP again but choose NTFS and give it a shot. I would also try borrowing a copy of the full version of XP, it should make the install process a little cleaner.

Vista - THERE's your problem right there!

Don't even think of using a new OS until ALL of the bugs have been tested out of it within it's first year! You can never get drivers, you'll have all sorts of problems with compatibility of both software and hardware.

In the first year of an OS, you'll hear from all sorts of people who are in the same boat as yourself who are complaining about everything going wrong with the OS. Unless you're going to just play with the OS on an unimportant computer, then you're just asking for problems!

I'm not trying to sound mean or rub salt in your wounds here, but why torture yourself? Take the easy route for now with Windows XP.

XP must be installed FIRST, then Vista.

Start over.
