My brother got a DUI in California a few years ago. He paid all the fines and went to the classes but didn't go to his final court appearance due to a family emergency. He's been living on the east coast since and wonders if he can ever fly into CA again or if they will pull his file at the airport and arrest him there. Anyone have and information for me to tell him?

The FTA could possibly affect his driving privileges where he maintains his current drivers license.

Your brothers BEST bet is to telephone the Clerk of the Courts office where the FTA is held to determine what can be done to clear the issue up!

Although I can understand the issue with the family emergency....your brother SHOULD have requested a continuance citing the family issue as the reason for needing a new court date.

All 50 states share what is known as "reciprocity" where one state honors the suspensions and revocations of another state license. Your brother could feasibly get stopped and find out he's driving suspended or revoked.

Make the call and clear up the issue!

Best wishes.

Have an attorney finalize this issue, and you can go back into California, just don't be stopped for anything where they would run his name. I am sure there are a lot of people living in California with outstanding arrest warrants.

There is a caveat. They may have closed the case, who knows! If your brother can get a license in another state, that would probably mean that his case was closed.

Get an attorney though!

you would be nice. the only ingredient regulation Enforcement does is touch the airline in case you have a warrant and you're seen risky to the ordinary public. you may call the clerk and purely pay for this over the telephone. in case you won't be able to till you come back than it is nice. day after today your place run down there and pay it. in case you reside in a small city they could arrest you and play with you a splash wherein they might do. Be polite and respectful.

It depends if anyone along the way runs his record or not.

I'm thinking he doesn't even have to go back to California to be caught and arrested.

He should call the courts and make arrangements to clear up his record or he could get into worse trouble.

The airport doesn't screen for warrants, they just need ID for security reasons. He'll only get in trouble if he gets in trouble and has his name ran by police. I know somebody who traveled with a warrant and he was fine.

they don't just pull a file at the airport,if he gets stopped then his name will get run and he will have to go and talk to the judge.
