Like anger and jealousy? He's allegedly omnipotent and all that. I think that if a God really existed it would be above such pettiness, don't you agree?

¬We were created in God's image so we feel emotion just as she does

We are a spirit soul, a spark of the supreme spirit soul, God. We have all the spiritual qualities that God has. But God is great, we are minute. He is infinite, we are infinitesimal. For example, suppose you take a drop of water from the vast Atlantic Ocean and you chemically analyze the ingredients. The composition of the drop of water is the same as the composition of the vast Atlantic Ocean. So qualitatively the drop of water is equal to the vast mass of water in the Atlantic Ocean. The thing is, when get in contact with material nature, our emotions become contaminated and are manifested in a perverted reflexion. In other words, anger and jealousy are selfish sinful emotions centered to our material body , they are not spiritual.

Kinda. God is above petty emotions. Problem is, humans have (re)created God in our image. In order to convey God's being and essence, humans anthropomorphize God, casting God as one gigantic human rather than a true divinity. Does this mean God doesn't exist? No. It just means humans do a poor job of talking about who, what and how God is.
For the record, God's alleged omnipotence is just anthropomorphism from another era. In no religious text does God say, "Hi! I'm a bunch of 'omnis'!" That came from Platonic philosophy. So your question here is really a battle of anthropomorphic ideals: Which era will win?!

Stay tuned.

I submit to you that sometimes these emotions are perfectly justifiable.

We are used to perceiving these emotions as petty; but that is drawn from our own human experience with our interactions with other humans. The kind of anger and jealousy of God's is quite different than ours in one critical respect: it is informed by omniscience; and while it may be true that we are modelled in God's image; we are not omniscient ourselves.

Thus, the connotation of "jealous" is slightly different than we are accustomed to. For example, when we are told not to worship false idols; because God is a jealous God, recognize that it was through God's own designs that there are even any idols for humans to choose to worship. God desires you to give him all of your heart, mind and soul. If you give it to the idols instead, this is an affront to God.

I think that this is what it means by "jealous" -- not the perjorative, petty sense that we use in everyday parlance. Also, remember that God is said to be perfectly just; therefore, unjust behavior makes God justifiably angry.

emotions arent petty they are what gives us life and inspires us. what do you think inspired you to ask this question huh?? do you think knowledge, reasoning, and creation can work without emotion?? God created us in his image not only did he create us to have his outer image but he created us to have many of his characteristics such as feelings of love, joy, and the ability to create. god is a creator and he gave us the ability to create something that comes from inspiration thought and feeling. and besides love is an emotion how could god love you without having feelings. and you asked why does god have feelings of jealousy and anger. when the bible talks of god being jealous its trying to give you an understanding of how he feels when people worship statues and other gods that dont exist. and you and i both know that you cant truly be jealous of something that doesnt exist. and anger is not a sin the bible says it.

These were GOD's emotions first idiots. there are no other big, bad powerful gods like him, so when we make one of course He gets jealous. Another thing- A god is supposed to be a big powerful living being with the ability to do or control things that humans can't, and do these things to a point where humans can't see or understand it. If we can make it ourselves, it's not a god at all. it's a cupholder.

As conceived by the jews, but not as conceived by modern Christians. So-called fundamentalists agree with jews on that, but they are a loonie fringe and a lot of people (including me) consider them more jewish than Christian. God as represented by Christ is all-wise,all-knowing and eternally forgiving and beneficient. The disparity is sufficiently striking as to wonder if Christ - Jesus of Nazareth - was ever a jew in the first place,by birth or training. I think those passages trying to make the case for Christ-as-a-jew are obvious interpolations by early jewish "converts" or what we would now call messianic jews. He was probably a Zoroastrian; that was after all the dominant religion of the era and area, and both Christ's personal quotes and the writings of the disciples reflect Zoroastrian dualism - which was and is antithetical to judaism. So to answer your question; as portrayed by jews, yes. As represented by Christ,no.

Well the argument would be that they're not human emotions. We were made in God's image and that's how we came to experience these emotions.

But I don't think the things God gets angry about are "petty." It's more of an outrage at what we have done to his creation.

You're also forgetting his emotions of love and forgiveness. These are what should categorize God, yet they're all too often ignored, even by Christians who would rather spew fire and brimstone.

Because God was made up by man, that's why God has petty human emotions.

If you were a craftsman and poured all your efforts and all that you had into creating something for others to appreciate and all most of them ever did was denounce your existence, capability, craftsmanship, pervert all that was good about it, ridicule your vision, mock all your ways you crafted and blame you for all that is wrong from their own hands.

God did say He made us in His image. God cares and is burdened by the ways of man. God desires all of man kind to not chose the wrong path and honor Him and not Satan.

Who said emotions are petty? We were created in the image of God and emotions in and of themselves are not sinful. Acting in sin because of emotion is another matter.
