Heh, you have to apply for a passport in order to get that receipt...

So... - go apply for a passport!

You dont get a receipt unless you go to the office in person. Lines are typically 3 days long or more.

You still have to go to the State Office (usually a DMV) to Apply for a Passport. You will still need a Passport to travel outside of the country but due to the current backlog they are saying that temporarily as long as you can show you have applied for a passport than you are good to go....

this is really funny, it was only 2-3 years ago that immigrants had to wait in line all day long and most times having to return 2-3 times to deal with immigration matters. now they can make an appointment and walk at the appointed time. Now it is us Americans that have to wait in line all day and get a little taste of the frustrations the immigrants suffered through for years, as far back as 1983 that i personally witnessed every work day. I'm glad i applied for my passport 2 years ago when i saw this coming down the pipeline, took me all of 10 minutes in line, 5 minutes to submit.

All they are saying is that instead of waiting until they send you the passport, you can enter as soon as you have applied and paid the fee if you have a receipt. other than that everything is the same.
