According to the Apostle's Creed, Jesus went to Hell after he died, and then went to Heaven. What was he doing in Hell?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

He went to Hell (Hades, literally) to set free those who believed in Him before the cross, but could not go to heaven until the atonement was paid at the cross. Now believers who die go directly to heaven. Hades was a two part place, Sheol and Paradise. Unbelievers are still there and that is where all unbelievers who die go today and will remain until the Great Judgment.

Well, Jews believe that there was no hell. When you died, you went into a slumber state in a place called Sheol. As a matter of fact, before Jesus died, no one could be saved from the original sin (Adam and Eve). So, instead of having them all burn in hell, he put them in a sleep state. When Jesus died, he went into Sheol, and freed the souls of the prophets. Then, he rose to Heaven.

After man sinned in the Garden of Eden, death came to man. Now it is appointed unto all men to die. Jesus conquered death so that we could live life eternally with him some day in heaven. Death is the result of sin. Jesus conquered sin by defeating death. Jesus went into hell to take the keys (or power) of death, hell, and the grave away from Satan. No grave will ever hold down a true Child of the King. Oh death where is thy victory, Oh grave where is thy sting.

After He died on the cross, and before he rose, Jesus went to Hell to preach to the spirits there. Hope this helps, and God bless U.

Jewish people had concept of some place all dead spirits go, but in English (or Christians) doesn't have that concept - so no word for that. I speak Korean, we had such concept, Apostle's creed was translated to that word instead of Hell.

There is no hell, JC never went there, the story is a myth. Don't believe everything you read, no matter how fancy the language.
