maybe he wants to make amends. I wouldn't start dating him again; hopefully both of you have moved on, and re-entering an old relationship can cause people to revert to old ways.

Maybe in the time since you two have been apart, he has matured and realized that holding grudges is just plain silly. I'm not saying you should run back to him with open arms, but there's nothing wrong with being friends with him again.
