Well, last evening it finally happened to me. I got a visit from some evangelicals. I didn't have time to talk with them, but I was very grateful that they cared enough about me to bring the gospel of salvation right to my door!
To those who consider door-to-door missionaries unwelcome: why?
Thanks for sharing your (rational) views!

Oops, I may've misspoken. They had a booklet called "Awake!" which I didn't take, so I don't really know what faith they represented. I presumed they were evangelicals. We didn't talk very long.

I don't consider them unwelcome, I consider them as ones actually doing the work that their lord asigned to them.
After reading the NT, it is easy for anyone to see that an identifying mark of a Christian, is that they do what Jesus told them to do. One of the things he told them was to preach the good news (as opposed to the typical Christian cop-out of saying they are living their lives as examples in lieu of preaching).
So any person that claims to be a Christian, yet does not take every opportunity to preach for their lord, is falling short of the works of faith. (James 2:14-26)

I think anyone that has the mentality of "let the dogs out", should go ahead and let 'em out. Jw's are not stupid people, they can certainly hire lawyers, call the police, press charges, and sue you just like antone else.

So when some of you think that you should come to the door naked, (indecent exposure), or open your door and point a fireare (brandishing a firearm, terrorist threat, are let the dogs our) you are actually in violation of US laws, and will yourselves end up in trouble. Not only that, when you think about it, going door to door is one of your freedoms. And as it stands, the freedoms we take for granted are quietly being taken away from us in the name of Ideology and Political fear.
While many of you would endorse a restriction on going door to door, have you ever thought about the implications?

If you have the time and the background, great! I once spent about two years, off and on, discussing holy writ with some JWs. I hated taking their literature, knowing they personally had to pay for it, but I enjoyed asking pointed questions. Eventually they got tired of having to "get back" to me on some topics, especially with no prospect of getting me into a Kingdom Hall. So I haven't seen them since. (I don't recommend this for everyone.)

I've tried the same thing with LDS missionaries but they seemed less patient. Maybe it's an age thing.

I don't, would LOVE nothing more than some to knock at my door, would invite them in straight away for a chat. The last time Jehovah's witness' knocked at the door I missed them so drove round the corner to find them. It is great listening to how thoroughly deluded they are. I am in the UK sadly so we literally NEVER get anyone religious knocking on the door. Wish I did though, it is like a live version of this website.

If you are talking about Mormons or Jehovah's witnesses, they aren't "Christians" in the strictest sense of the word. They don't even believe in the deity of Jesus Christ, and that is a cornerstone belief of Christianity.
However, if a true evangelical Christian came to my door, I would be happy to discuss anything with them, and if they had beliefs that were not in line with Scripture, I would be happy to set them straight.

I hate having that stuff shoved down my throat. I'm a Christian and I don't go door to door bugging my neighbors with pamplet's and stuff. If I want to know bout your religion I'll look it up myself. But don't bug me about it. Ya know? And I agree with Crystaline who made the comment about how would you like if a bunch a satanists coming to your door to share the word of Satan with you? And to everyone who made the comments about repetive visits yes it is annoying when they come to my house every Saturday to tell me about there religion that's why I don't answer my door.

I guess you would call Jesus Christ annoying also because we do what Jesus Christ commanded us to do at Matthew 28 verse 19 and 20. we don't shove our religion down your throat. we are christians. we are not a cult. a cult worships man, we worship Jehovah and follow Jesus Christ command. if you are not interested, we tell you to have a nice day and leave. if you don't want us coming back, tell us to put your name on the do not call list. learn what we are about www.watchtower.org. look up the word hell. it is the common grave, when you die you go into hell, the grave.

Doesn't bother me, usually we'll invite them in. Although, I've only had evangelicals (read: Baptists) once, generally we have Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses.

I can honestly say, I have only had Jehovah's Witnesses come to my door...and only on two occasions....

However, I would be polite to them...but, I have a 125 yellow lab that looks fierce that may intimidate some...and I would not put her up to appease them.

I dont mind that either... but i cannot stand the Jehova's Witnesses. I probably spelled that wrong but I dont care.

I was home alone and the 2 men tried to push in my door, so I called my BIG doggie on them. Ive never seen anyone run so fast!

Thats why I dont like them very much.

Most people find them annoying, including most denominations. To some extent,it's annoying like a door-to-door salesman is annoying,to some extent it's that it gives Christianity a reputation for pushing their views. Mostly it's the presumptuousness. They obviously operate on the assumption everyone they don't know personally is an atheist - which is pretty stupid. But if it warmed your heart,so be it. Personally,I'm a Catholic and we disapprove of that sort of thing: it's demeaning to Christianity to go about hawking it like a Fuller Brush salesman.
