Try running the CD while logged into vista. A box should come up asking you if you want to install XP. Probably it will have the option to install without overwriting all of your files. Try that post another question about what happened.

You ned to reformat the hard drive (i don't know how, but you can research how). Then when it is done, insert your XP disk in your computer and boot from it, as Vista is no longer there. Then you will get no error from Vista as it is not there. You can then install XP on your hard drive. I would suggest just sticking with Vista though, because now Vista is terrible, but some day it will be the shining star of technology, and you will want it then. That day should come soon, as apps are now becoming compatible.

firstly XP wont get the SATA driving force you will could desire to ascertain with DELL in the event that they have a SATA driving force on your computer. in the event that they do then you extremely will could desire to ascertain your BIOS if its able to boot from USB because of the fact you do not have a floppypersistent. mutually as VISTA could have the drivers for the SATA controller that why its extra common to try this. now there is yet in a distinctive way i considered some computer that have an decision on your BIOS to disable the SATA controller or enable IDE mode that may not require a SATA driving force then you extremely can setting up XP while not having to place in a driving force to locate the no longer easypersistent. i've got do no longer this the two way until eventually now. in case you're making plans to place in xp which i think of you're, then you extremely will desire the two a flashpersistent with the SATA driving force or a u . s . a . floppypersistent. then boot from cd -> press the button to place in driving force as quickly as you notice the bluescreen and stick to the instuction. the different decision is to circulate interior the bios and seem for that option to tutor off the controller. if its no longer there i comprehend ACER have it in some laptops. the easy element to do would be to easily setting up VISTA with SP1 its no longer undesirable in any respect.

No matter how many ways I've tried, I cannot run vista and XP together (dual boot). My vista came pre-installed too.

You can only use Dell XP disks for your PC. Your generic XP Pro will not work.

Buy from Dell.

get a Windows 98 boot disk and FDISK it. You need to clear extra partitions and reformat the drive before you can put the new OS on it. that's what it sounds like at least
