I know this sounds ridiculous but my grandfather suffers from dimentia and he is very vague on his military past. Half of my family see's him as a liar, half of my family see's him as a hero. Where can I go to verify that he has served?

Check out your local courts office "clerk or the court". His discharge papers may be on file there. Also use his social security number to search with the world wide military locator. www.worldwidemilitary locator.com

Look up his DD214. You may be able to find that in his old papers or you may be able to request through Personnel at St Louis, MO. (don't know if you can do this while he is alive)

Another place you might find it is at the county clerks office.

Most veterans will have something laying around that indicates their service.

How old is your grandfather? You can go to ancestor.com military section and do a search. My dad and Step dad are both there.
