On my family crest, it says Lux et Salus and I was wondering what it meant. According to my dad Lux means light, but I've no idea. Can someone help me out?

It is the motto of the Brunton Family and is translated as:

Light and Safety.

the natural meaning would be along the lines of:

enlightenment and safety.

literally the words mean:

light and salvation

but you probably need to play around with the ideas a little to get a meaningful english equivalent.
