It doesn't necessarily have to be your brother if you're not close with him. Choose the man in your life who you are the closest to and who has always been there for you. You should want someone by your side who means a lot to you and who you want to share the most important day of your life with.

Your best man should be the person who is your right hand man. Not neccessarily your brother, but the friend of yours that you trust with your life. It can be a college roomate, childhood friend, or even your father. This goes the same for groomsmen. Your brothers could be your ushers to seat guests. Even though blood is thicker than water your family shouldn't be in your wedding if you are not comfortable with it.

Don't chose out of obligation, that's #1. Family is great and all, but its your wedding, don't suffer with tools in the wedding party. It will just add stress to the day.

Your best man should be your closest male companion. If that a brother or cousin great, if its a best friend, college buddy, ot camp counselor, that's great too.

Make sure the guys are people you like, people you feel are supportive of the marriage, and people that mean the most to you and your fiance.

Best of luck and congratulations

You best man and groomsmen should be whoever you'd like but there will sometimes be a lot of pressure from the family to have your brothers, but I say if you don't want your brothers you shouldn't have them.

You choose who you want to! There are no rules, really, although you usually try to have the same amount of groomsmen as bridesmaids. You can pick the people that mean the most to you, or the ones that will be most mad if they are not picked, or the ones that will make your mother happy... it really is up to the groom! I needed three, and I actually picked my sisters. They were the closest to me, and my wife already had bridesmaids to pick. So we dressed them up in tuxes and away we went. It was great. I was happy. My wife was happy. That is all that mattered.

NO...you do not have to be obligated to choose your brothers...in most cases people choose family..because of the stress..and feeling obligated..and dont want to hurt people..but in reality this is your day..and the person or people you should have by your side are the people that you are close to..you want to experience this day with your right hand man..i wish the best of luck to you...may your day be blessed..

You choose whoever you feel closest to. Just remember, other members of the family may have other ideas (like Mom & Dad, Grandparents), and you will have to live with the consequences of your choices for a long time. If you think other family members will have issues, it may be easier to cut your losses and deal with the "tools" for the day than to live with negativity for not.

Congratulations and best wishes.

No but sometimes it's just nice to bite the bullet and have them in the wedding for the family. My brother is growing a ZZ top beard to drive me insane... My mother swore she would get him drunk and shave it before the wedding if she had to.

It should be the guys in your life that mean the most to you. If this isn't your brothers, then don't ask them. My fiance has two brothers, but he asked his close friends instead. He didn't think his brothers would want to do it.

I agree 100% with crabbyone (the first person whom answered your question) . My son just got married and had his buddy and my new hubby stand up with him. It's all about the bride & groom...whatever they want is the way it should be! Congratulations and good luck.
