probably Project Arrow, that they still haven't got to work, but good 'ol Bush will sell them the promise of security anyway!
but that is OK, because if it is needed, and it doesn't work, he isn't going to have to refund the money anyway. so it could be a trillion dollar toilet paper roll covered in aluminum foil, it wouldn't make any difference.
doesn't it seem kind of funny to you, that things like this weren't even needed anymore until Bush got into office than everyone started threatening nukes? and then going to buy this "shield" prior to achieving this "world peace" bush seems to be working soo hard for??
as if, a nuclear strike where to happen, the payload would be carried by an obsolete ICBM rather than a Global Hawk.
oh well, that is what Bush is good at....selling promises, not solutions.

This is a defense shield first introduced by President Reagan. This is how long it has taken for the Pentagon to make it effective enough to install.
It is an early warning system that alerts the US and its allies of a preemptive nuclear strike or missile launch from adversarial territories, such as Russia, China, N.Korea, Iran, or any other rogue country that decides to take a first strike initiative. The system is designed to recognize and intercept missiles and destroy them before they can reach their
destination .
Vladimir Putin must be really concerned that his nuclear strike capabilities will diminish if this program is put into play. The question should be asked of Putin; if Russia has no plans of a preemtive strike, why would it be concerned about this program ?

It is a new spin on Reagan's "star wars" program from the 80's.
It is missiles that are supposed to intercept incoming missiles from the enemy. It has only been reliable in testing where the system knows exactly where the enemy missile is coming from..so far.
Some see this as necessary, others see it as a waste of money because it is so far unproven in real-life exercises where the exact path is unknown and missiles have countermeasures designed to avoid these defense systems.
It is also argued that this is a defense system that would have been necessary in the 1980's but does nothing to protect against 9/11 style attacks or other terrorist attacks which are much more likely than a missile attack.

THe theory is that if a missle is launched this system will see it on radar and then launch a smaller missle to blow it up in mid air before it reaches it's target. To realize the actual diffcultly of this have your friend throw a football over your head and try and knock it away by throwing a baseball at it.

It's a not working missile system to intercept
intercontinental ballistic missiles launched from
the axis of evil (whoever that will be at that point in time).
Up to now it never succeeded in intercepting in a live test.
Only orchestrated tests succeeded (sometimes).
If it eventually will work in some point in time it might
be able to intercept primitive ICBMS.
It's basically not much more than a cash cow.

not so much a force field more like a counter strike. they plan on using strategic geographical placement to basically destroy any missles the system detects before it reaches it's target.
