I have been up to Whitehorse a couple of times. And once in June made it up to Dawson City and then past the Arctic Circle and to Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories.

Whitehorse/ Dawson - Lots of gambling, gold mining, and tourism going on.

Inuvik/Tuk - Lots of looking for oil and military watching for missiles at the time (DEW Station) Other parts of NWT seems to be mostly diamond mining happening now.

Yes. I have been to Yellowknife which is pretty far north in Canada. It is a utilitarian and not very pretty community. In the winter all snow and ice. In the very short summer...lots of bare ground. Everything is flat. All that goes on in northern Canada is some oil/gas exploration and drilling and poverty.
Not a pleasant place.

I've been to Point Alert...nothing much goes on up there...lots of blips on a radar screen that's pretty much it.

I traveled above the Artic Circle once. It was cold and there was NOTHING going on.
