He consumed about 4 oz. of lanolin, (commonly used for nursing human's sore nipples.) It says non toxic, (babies get a little when they nurse) but he ate much more than one would use for medical purposes. Any ideas??

Well I don't specifically know about Lanolin but in general if you're not sure, you should call your vet. During weekends or nights, you can call the Animal Poison Control Center. Their website is http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc_whattodo. They charge $55 if you call with an emergency, which I think is a lot, but I know my dog would be worth it.

The short answer is "Call a vet if your not sure"- that being said- Lanolin is made from sheep I'm pretty sure- so I think he'll be fine. All that oil will probably give him the runs, though. Just watch him, give him plenty of water, and call a vet right away if he seems listless or lacks appetite.

lanolin is a natural substance that is secreted from the skin of sheep. the over the counter stuff is basically just a thickened skin oil. other that perhaps a tummy ache and some greasy poo, your dog should be fine.

Call your vet right away and tell them what happened. Don't wait. Could be harmless, but maybe not. Just because it says non-toxic doesn't mean its safe to eat it, or safe for dogs.

he may have a loose stool for a while. most things have a section on what to do if injested section. you may have to check on line. probably not a big problem.

You should only worry about your carpet. He is most likely going to get the splattery squirts pretty bad

have fun when he gets the runs. keep him OFF your carpets tonight and if he starts whining to go out take it seriously.

good luck

I would suggest a vet. I hear they specialize in that sort of thing.
