a letter said to join the army, or even i f i dont register, a 250,000 dollar fine will come, or 5 years in prison. god bless america. i have 9 days to reply, what should i say, i wanted to tell them the truth, that i work at a church, and i have touretts syndrome, my wrist is very hurt in some ways, my political views hint that i would one, never serve for the U.S. two, i believe that the U.S. has drifted away from our forefathers dream. i wouldl rather do five years in prison than join any branch of tyhe military, i have no medical records that say anything about my touretts, but its there, i heard criminals get drafted first, well i have a clean record. if you knew me, you would know that i would feel as if im getting raped if i was forced to joiin the army, i dont want to be forced to kill my dreams, i am a one in a kind individual who would easily run away to live with my brother than join the army. what would jesus think? how terrible.

Registering with selective service is not joining the army.
You are over reacting JUST a hair here; there IS NO DRAFT.

I think you've missed passing along some of the facts here.

First off, there is no draft, so nobody can FORCE you to join the Army.

However, there is a legal requirement for all men in the US to register for the selective service system after their 18th birthday. I suspect you received the letter because you haven't yet registered, but have applied for or received financial aid for college or some such. Failure to register does have legal consequences.

If you have Tourette's syndrome (interesting that somebody who has it doesn't know how to spell), it would make you ineligible for military service, but doesn't absolve you of responsibility of registering. I suspect, because you 'don't have medical records' that you are probably exaggerating your actual medical situation. It's irrelevant in any respect.

Finally - if, as you say, you have moral qualms about military service, there is a time-honored concept called 'conscientious objector' status. You should look into it.

Every male in the US between the ages of 18 and 25 is required to register with the selective service, but just because you register with them does not mean you have to join the military. You can register with the Selective Service System as what is called a "CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTOR" the information on doing so is in the link below.

Now for my personal opinion...I was one who swore up and down that I would NEVER be in the military, then my senior year I realized that I procrastinated too long to get into a college for the fall semester and to get scholarships for the fall semester so I decided to join the Navy with a friend from High School......after being in I loved it and never thought I would.

First - get a grip.
Second, you have amedical reson for not serving if the draft is ever re-instated (Tourette's Syndrome). You and a gun would NOT be a good situation for your unit!! You have more than enough time to get an evaluation to prove your disorder.
Third - like learning English should be, registration is the law and Jesus said "render unto Caesar."
Git 'er done!

There is no draft, silly. Unless you explicitly signed up for the army or something, then this is either a scam, or you are totally misunderstanding it. Signing up for selective service does not mean you have to join the army. It just means you can be drafted if there is one, but there isn't. No congressman who wants to be re-elected is going to vote for a draft, so don't worry about it. If you have tourette's syndrome, they wouldn't draft you anyway. But you still have to sign up for selective service, or you are breaking the law.

You need to register, it's the law.

It is not the same as being drafted. There is no draft in place. Selective Service registration would be used as the basis for the draft if it were enacted but we are still a long way from that happening.

So, in short, all you need to do is fill out the form. You are not being drafted.

If you have not registered with Selective Service go to:

https://www.sss.gov/regver/Register1.asp

You can do it online. And failure to do so puts you at risk of a $250,000.00 fine and up to five years in prison. You do not have to join the army. Throw the letter away.

Jesus instructed us to give unto Caesar what is Caesar's. We are to follow the laws of our land. You have to sign up, but that does not mean you are joining the army; you are just registering with them. You will probably never be called.

You have to register.

Then go see a psychiatrist.

With what you're spouting, the psychiatrist will recognize youare a nut, document it, and--if the Democrats ever get their draft bill passed--you'll be classified 4F and never see a day of service because you're a fruitcake...

Wow!!! You blew this way out of proportion. Every male 18 years old has to enroll in selective service. You aren't joining the army! You are not required to do anything but fill out the card and send it in. Welcome to being an adult in America!
